I'd put money on the gas cap not being tight.

The CEL has nothing to do with oil changes.

Unless the maintenance light was permanently lit, don't worry about the oil change right away. When it flashes on startup, it's telling you that you need an oil change in the next 1000-2000 miles (or something like that).

Happened to me once. Here in OR we cant pump our own gas. Normally the attendants are well practiced at turning them 10-20 clicks just to be sure..lol. Once I had one that got it to click once and my CEL came on. Shut the car off, took the cap off, re-tightened properly and clicked, started up, CEL was gone.

Whenever I buy a used car, I get the oil changed ASAP. This way you know exactly when the oil was changed.

With my car, I have to hold the gas cap around the outside or it will start clicking before it is properly sealed. Also, the cel won't go away until a couple of days later if it is the gas cap.

Read the owners manual to see the maintenance intervals this will help you narrow down which maintenance is comming up. I'm guessing it is your 30K which includes the dif fluid and a few other items, like oil, check brakes, etc..., this is a must do maintenance. As far as the CEL, others have suggested some good possibilities but you will not know why it is on until you get the code read.

Get the code checked. You can even buy a scanner at walmart for $40. Change the oil and i'm sure everything will be fine

Why would changing oil fix stumbling at idle...? Its still a good idea to do it to any new car but I dont think it will fix this. You can get the code pulled at autozone or advance for free.

So your car is shaking when you turn it off? That sounds normal to me, mine does the same thing.

And if its shaking while your taking off then it could just be that you havent gotten used to the car and your not revving it high enough. Happened to me and ive seen it happen alot. Still get that CEL checked out and well know for sure.

Since I redid the gas cap should I pull the battery and see if the code comes back on?
