easy gentleman. We don't need to be insulting. I don't buy "big three" either but that is my personal preference. It's not reasonable to assume someone is stupid because they baught a Lumina, etc. Also, you may want to change your "handle" to something other than your e-mail address-you may start getting hate mail from corvette owners.

Well, then I guess you succeeded.

Granted, the 'buy american only' attitude is no better, but realize that statements like, "He drives a piece of shit with a bigger engine" are just as ignorant. Just realize that your beliefs are opinions and nothing more. Mustangs and the like are designed with different goals and different market in mind. You may not fit into that target audience, but to ignore it and believe that what you like is superior without question is the definition of ignorance.

The 'vette was a highly modified hardtop (non-Z06). It was race prepared and had a rollcage AND race tires. It was not a road/race car, but was purely a race car. Granted, if my memory serves me correctly, the S2000 was the King Motorsports entry and was also race modified. Both cars were very well driven, and the vette owner lost it entering a straightaway.

Anyways, if the fact the the C5 race car had gotten rid of the run flats and was running race tires, and the S2000 was running race tires, then that would bring them back to about equal, mods wise, and the apparent performance robbing fact of the runcraps on the C5 would be removed. Logic would say that it brings them closer together in performance, doesn't it?

So, if the 'vette or a Z06 can apparently 'kick the crap' out of an S2000, (as per Elanderholm's post) above, why couldn't it easily catch the S2000, chew it up and spit it out? Think about this......... if the difference is 'only' a second per lap at Thunderhill betwen a non runcrap C5 and a Z06, (and Grattan is a much smaller track with less elevation changes), then rightfully, a Z06 may have had trouble catching (AND PASSING) the S2000 as well. So would a Z06 really 'kick the crap' out of an S2000? Aparently not. In reality, both cars should be, within reason (and me conceding AGAIN that the Z06 is an AWESOME ride) reasonably close. Yes, if the circuit has a lot of straights, the difference would be even greater in the favor of the Z06, as it is that much faster in a straight line.

By the way, the driver/owner of the vette that rolled on the race track hurt himself pretty badly. He smacked his helmet on the roll cage and now has permanent brain damage as a result of his injuries. He has experienced several seizures requiring hospitalization and will never be able to race again. Also, he 'de-converted' the C5 race car back to a road car, sold it and (I believe) has since bought a C5 for road duties only.

I posted an in car video of the crash some months ago. Anyone found the link?

Since the foreign content of American cars is ever increasing, it's hard for the "Buy American" folks to make a case. Hell, GM has contracted to buy Honda V-6's, for crissakes. Get over it; buy what you like; please yourself and worry less about what others think.

You know, this is a Honda S2000 forum, which is a JAPANESE car. Why the hell are you gung-ho American car owners on this site?
Because most of us here are car enthusiasts -- not Honda badge swinging bigots like you. Hell many of us even own domestic vehicles as well.

Sime -- Elanderhorn is correct -- those of us that visit the road courses know that a well-driven C5 is a very fast car. Given equal drivers the C5 is hands down quicker -- period. If you want to fool yourself into believing in a fantasy -- apparently based on one statistical anomaly -- go ahead.

Just as a side to that -- have you taken the time to factor in such things as weather conditions for the two runs? Temperature? Rain? How about drivers?

Go check the Jan 2001 issue of Road & Track. Around Thunderhill the Z06 BOXED THE EARS of
a Z8, 550, M3 Roadster,S2000,911 Turbo and the Boxter. It lost out only to the 360. BTW the
Z28 SS posted better lap times than the S2000.

Now I bought the S2000 because I like the tidier dimensions, but the SS will go like a
scalded cat.
