Okay so you say America doesn't make a good car. Then I guess the 1966 GMC truck that I drove to work today is really not worth the money that my grandfather paid for it when new. Maybe I should pull out my S2000 and see how it can handle the ice that was on the roads.
Point is that yes Honda makes a great car, but that doesn't mean you need to put down cars made in the US (like the Accord). If you don't like the fact that people are looking at your friend and not you, then that is there choice. Everyone has there choice and needs for a car. Most people don't have much use for a small car that only takes two people.
Some people are brand loyal, but that doesn't make them ignorant people. Leave them to make the choices they want, and you make yours, and enjoy the car.

Now, I agree with you, but... not so harshly. Most people are ignorant to the technological ability of foreign sports cars. This is fact. My father and his friends laughed at me when I brought home my S, but when we took it to the street and I was able to keep up with classic Corvettes of the 60s they learned a hard lesson. (especially when I blew their doors off in the turns!) My point is this: try to educate by example. Don't get all bent out of shape and start getting snippy, just line um up and knock um down. Besides, the import craze started at the coast line and is creeping in land, your that much further ahead of the game.
One more thing, I assume your in your twenties (as am I) but a couple of your posts came off on a junior high level. We all can sense that you are passionate about this topic, but the term "shitty ass" doesn't convey an image most members here will validate when it comes to your opinion.
Just trying to help.

Our marvelous US Supreme Court gave the windows(UGI format)/mouse away to PC Land from the original Mac years ago and just recently have given Slick Willie(not Bill) and Co. the bank again.

I live in Detroit (Wixom) as well...........and I 'can' see where you are coming from with regards to potentially 'biased' Detroiters and their love (bias?) of American muscle iron. But, I do agree with the others that you have been immature in the way you presented your thread. It could have been handled better.

FYI, it must be the people you hang around with, and the places you go. I constantly get looks from all manner of drivers young and old, and they are always complimenting me on my car. And, I've never had ANYONE tell me that they didn't like it. I've even had a couple of Viper owners stare at my S2000 as I was oogling THEIR car!!!

Granted though, most 'lookers' haven't the foggiest idea what my car is or how capable it is, but they still admire it nonetheless. The S2000 to the uneducated is a very underrated vehicle. When I tell people that the car has 240hp weighs around 2700lbs, they look at me like I am on drugs or lying through my teeth!!! Hell, some people even think it is a new Miata or something!

Now, with a Mustang or Camaro (or even Corvette), there's no denying in the general car buying/driving mind's eye that they are apparently 'performance machines'. I used to own a 2000 C5 and agree with you that a large number of American made cars aren't made as well as their Japanese/European counterparts. In fact, my Corvette was so badly built and was so unreliable that I legally forced GM to buy it back due to Lemon Law.

Now I know that there will be plenty of non-S2000 owners, or even C5 owners reading this thread and will blatantly disagree with me when I say that the S2000 handles WAAAY better than the C5....and then most certainly better than a Mustang, Firebird or Camaro. I'll scratch the Z06 out of this because it is a fine, fine car (still not reliable though and GM have many problems with the Z06 - there are at least 2 S2000 owners on this board that used to have Z06's). But the Mustang and Camaro owners are possibly going to be armchair critics....having owned/driven only one of the two cars being compared. I owned my C5 (6sp) for nearly a year and killed it every day..........ALWAYS pushing the envelope. So I speak with authority. Sure, the C5 is faster in accelleration than the S2000, but the S will beat it under brakes and most definitely on the track (read: ROAD COURSE, not dragstrip) if the drivers are equivalent in ability. Did anybody see that Corvette that crashed/rolled trying to catch the S2000 at Grattan? Before it crashed, the only way the Corvette made any ground was in a straight line.

To some people, straight line is everything......but there are other rewards to driving a car. It's for the same reason that I just don't get the 'excitement' of NASCAR. Watching cars go round and round in circles. (flame suit on!!) Each to their own I guess.

However, I still respect American cars. I would own a Corvette again in a flash if somebody could prove to me I wouldn't get a Lemon. But, I've had more fun in the S2000 than I ever did in the 'vette. Sure, the S2000 is slower than the 'vette or 400hp Camaro V8 (I'll run a Mustang anytime!). But the S is a little race car, and I'm very, very happy to submit to a loss in accelleration, in order to have a 9000rpm curve carver with excellent brakes and chassis geometary. I will agree with you that depending on what you are looking for, the S2000 is a lighter, better car than most American sports cars...........but you're not comparing apples with apples if you compare it to a Camaro or Mustang. The S2000 is $5-10K more money.

I think the intent of the GM engineers was vastly different to that of the Japanese guys when GM built the F body cars. If GM USA really wanted to build/market a car like the S2000, they most certainly could. They have the ability and have proven that. Just look at the Lotus Elise. But for them, their US buyer demographic likely wouldn't support such an attempt at the sports car market. GM buyers would likely complain that it was "too small", or "...doesn't have a back seat", or "...no trunk - where am I gonna put my golf clubs or subwoofer box?"!!!!!!!!!!!! A Lotus/GM Elise in their stable would look like a bastard child. That's why they probably let sleeping dogs lie.

The bottom line is that I respect anything with wheels and a performance heart. What's more is that I respect the drivers that choose to drive the cars they do - because they enjoy peformance in whatever form makes them happy. Did you stop to think that maybe people that drive a '94 Mustang physically can't AFFORD a $32,000 S2000. Just the same as you probably can't afford a $50,000+ M3. Point is, there will always be something better, faster and more expensive. Respect the Mustang/Camaro for what it is! You know what the S2000 is and what it can do.........and frankly, that's ALL that should matter.

It's all about how it makes YOU feel, right? And, I believe the S2000 has served it's task.

PS. I'm curious mate, what would you be driving if you couldn't afford an S2000, and only had say, $10,000- $13,000 to buy a '94 Mustang GT?

If you think that an S2000 will beat a c5 Vette on the track then you need to check into a hospital. The only thing the s2000 has over a c5 is build quality.

You guys would rip me to shreads if I was to say Corvettes were a better overall car than say a Porsche or Ferrari! The latters are obviously superior.

And for this comment, well, the Z06 would rip a new asshole in almost any Ferrari or Porsche. I am a huge Porsche and Ferrari fan but I can say one thing is that for the money there is no better performance car out of the box than the Z06. i have never one time owned an American car but i will own a Z06. Ferrari is Superior?, well only in STATUS that is. A Ferrari is for the ppl with money who want to flaunt it. A Ferrari cant be kept on the road for anymore than a week at a time because its crappy build quality. For the money they are asking for any Ferrari it should easily blow away anything on the road as well as be rock solid reliable.

Thanks anyway mate, but I've had my medical check recently and all is perfectly well with my health. I suggest that you be the one to move to the hospital quickly and get some big stitches to close that gaping HOLE called your mouth!

I PAY FOR MY ENTIRE CAR PAYMENT, INSURANCE, GAS, ETC...

I expressed my opinion. You guys have yours. It's no crime. I don't have an attention problem.

You know, this is a Honda S2000 forum, which is a JAPANESE car. Why the hell are you gung-ho american car owners on this site?
