My insurance company will only handle a repair free of charge but a replacement is under the deductable ($1000 for me) so it is out of my pocket. I have called all over this area for quotes and the cheapest I can find is about $300.

I had to look around a bit before I found that rate. And that is with OEM glass too.

Full glass coverage would make it equal zero, or at least it does in NYS
I have full glass coverage, zero deductable...
My S is on it's second window, and the CRX-Si gets another new one this summer.
I added that to my policy. It will cost me about 8 bucks more per month but is worth it

If you pay $8/mo, that's $96 a year - how often do you replace your windshield?

I just replaced the windshield on my Rabbit after driving for less than 2 yrs. Driving on the I-5 is no fun. There are lots of semi truck and windshield can be easily chipped.

How do you request OEM glass? Who do the OEM's use? Do they actually make their own glass? Mine really needs to be replaced...
