Default Please help...rear jacking point?

I normally don't double post (my other post is in UTH) but I needed an answer ASAP. What is the rear jacking point? Is it the part of the differential casing that comes down a bit? That's the only thing I can see back there that looks like it would support the weight. Thanks.

As far as I know, you don't jack the front of the rear of the car. You have to lift each side . I'm not near the car, but there should be some sort of diagram in the trunk as to where the lift points are.

There are jacking points in the front and the rear. As you thought, the rear is the bottom of the differential housing. The front point is under the horizontal support in front of the engine. Look under the car and you will see a reinforced area in the middle (side to side) of the car just in front of the engine.

I would much prefer to use these, 1) I have a floor jack and prefer to jack one end of the car at a time, and 2) the jacking points under the car are much more beefed up than the sides of the car are.

I'm in agreement with this. Also, make yourself 4 wood blocks out of 2 X 8 slightly wider than the width of your tires. Drive the car onto these and you'll have an easier time with pumping the jack handle.

Thanks for the replies guys. I asked around and I guess that with most RWD vehicles, you can jack up the rear using the diff housing as a jack point. They referred to it as the "pumpkin." Heh.

Yep. Been jacking the pumpkin on the MG for a long time using the same method as the S2000. Some of the floor jack sell an inexpensive rubber dounut that can be cradled on the lift to protect the pumpkin but I've never found them necessary.

Some has the picture from a european manual can someone post that pic up again. So everyone knows where the front and rear jacking points exactly are.
