Only one minor problem on my 02 at 4200 miles. Had one of the rear diff mounts replaced because it was leaking. Great service from my dealer and did it while I waited. They even let me watch the whole time, and changed my diff fluid at no charge. I changed the trans fluid at 3600 miles due to the trans grinding into sixth gear. Fluid change took care of that.

I have a little over 3,000 miles on mine and have only owned it for six weeks. What can I say? I love driving it! Although I think I better get myself a little commuter car (90-01 CRX Si most likely) so I don't burn so much gas money.
I haven't had any mechanical problems yet, but then again... the car is still relatively new. I don't expect there to be many problems, though. I had my del Sol for three years and had only minor things come up... normal things you'd expect from a pre-owned vehicle. Same with my boyfriend's old CRX. I don't expect anything really major to come about. Only thing that gets my attention is the weather stripping on the windshield. It looks like it wasn't put on correctly and no matter how I push on it, it doesn't want to fit properly. I'll be taking it in sometime next week to have it looked at.

1 differential replaced here..and right now my car is at Holler Honda getting the tranny rebuilt at my expense because they said it was damaged due to abuse.car has 38k on it now..when i had complained thousands of miles(32k) before about the grinding.. I do have an extended warranty which i called first but Fedility said it was Honda that should be fixing this because they saw my previous visit at 32k..(during honda warranty) with the same problem and nothing was done by Honda. Honda changed the clutch but not the synchros...oh well..4000 dollars later..my mother would like to see me get something more practical.. I've been looking at IS300 5spds.
G1S2k,
I just read your post from June 25, 2002. Does it really go back that far?
Well, yesterday I brought my 2002 S2000 back to Holler Honda for the second time with the same concern, which is very similar to what you described (I have quoted your text below). The first time was about a week after I bought it from them with 37,800 miles on it. The second time, yesterday, at just over 38,000 miles. In a letter to them I describe a "crunching" when selecting gears, excessive throw-out bearing noise, and sometimes at a stop, the shifter will not move into 1st. Aaron Barta the service manager drove it both times, the first time with a Honda Rep. One of his techs drove it too, including a Honda Certified Technician by the name of Michael Simon who also posts here on S2K Int'l. They all say the car is perfect and that the "notching" I'm experiencing is normal for that car. I know I should agree with them and all their Honda expertise, but I'm no slouch when it comes to car care and repair and I've always driven manual cars including my last one, a Honda Prelude Si. I know what I'm hearing and feeling in the shifter handle and clutch pedal is not good. I know that when the car is at a stop and the clutch is to the floor, the car should not roll forward when I slowly push the shifter into 1st gear. Mr. Barta signed the letter for me but stated that he only felt a slight "notching" 2 times when shifting into 3rd. All the people at Holler Honda have been extremely professional and courteous, but I'm concerned that if the clutch or transmission goes on this thing, and based on what you described about your experience with them, that they may somehow try to say that it was driver abuse. I've read some other horror stories about people having the same type of transmission problems and having their service department simply write it off as driver abuse. I almost feel like getting rid of this car, however much I otherwise love it, and going back to looking at manual trans Lexus IS300s as well. I would have gotten one over this car, but it was just taking so long to find a good one. Any comments on this issue is greatly appreciated.

My letter to Holler Honda Service Manager describing concerns:
11/21/5
2002 Honda S2000, VIN: JHMAP11442T009565
All symptoms are greater after stop and go driving.
1) Item #51 on 10/20/05 service agreement (see attached A).
2) TSB #00-054 (see attached B).
3) A "crunching" happens when selecting gears when car is either stationary or moving. It is audible and is also felt in the shifter handle. It happens mostly when shifting to 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears.
4) Excessive throw-out bearing friction. It is audible with released or pressed clutch petal and is also felt in depressed clutch pedal mostly over 2,000 rpm.
5) Engine "sputters" after stop and go driving, even with a cooler ambient temperature. It comes close to stalling, car lurches as if starving for gas. It happens when starting in first and when shifting to second. Especially after clutch has been depressed and released several times.
6) At operating temperature, with transmission in neutral, with clutch fully depressed, with rpm slightly elevated, the car rolls forward slightly when shifter is moved into 1st gear.
7) At operating temperature, with transmission in neutral, with clutch fully depressed, sometimes shifter will not go into 1st unless clutch is released and depressed again.
8) Very slight wobbling(chatter) of flywheel/clutch disc while releasing clutch and moving forward in 1st gear.
*Please be sure to turn flywheel.
*Please be sure to use improved clutch disc as described in Honda TSB 00-054.
*Please be sure to replace throw-out bearing.
*Please check transmission oil for metal shavings and replace with Honda oil if necessary.

its crazy how little some of you drive considering how long you've had the car. im avg near 2k a month. but it's understandable with tough winters, etc.
I think i have a passenger door rattle. anyone have any advice? i already clicked the pass seatbelt in.

6 years old, 43k miles and trouble free save for two seperate incidents where at least two wheel studs on my front driver's side wheel broke. Not sure if that's a factory defect or amateur thieves unsucessfully trying to obtain my wheels.
'02 with 89k miles. I voted "I have had minor problems that keep being annoying."
My only two gripes:
(1) 2nd gear grind
I absolutely despise the way the transmission shifts when cold. This issue I do not consider resolved and it annoys me to no end. On the other hand, I love the way it shifts once it's warmed up.
(2) Soft top wear holes
My car's original soft top developed the lower wear holes near the side seam. My new top is holding up much better. This issue I consider resolved.
Aside from that, all else has been dandy so far.
