Possible new s2000 owner
Quick intro, I get bored with cars very easily. My average lifespan of a car is usually 2 - 3 years. In 2004 I bought a new 350z loved it initially but sold it after 2 years. I then bought a 2006 mustang gt convert, I still enjoy the car but I will never get a black car again, water etching is such a pita. I am contemplating trading the mustang in for a 2006 s2000 with 8,000 miles. I usually buy new but its such a losing proposition in the long run. I have a few concerns about the s2000.
1. Is it possible to get one of those single din pop up screen navigation units?
2. I know the car has a lot of top end power, but is the lack of low end torque that noticeable?
3. ANy mechanical issues that I should be aware of or have checked out before purchasing the car?
Thank you in advance.

1. No, the dash shape will not allow it to flip up all the way unless it came out far enough to interfere with the shifter.
2. It will be noticeable after a Z and a Mustang. Test drive and decide how noticeable for yourself.
3. on a car with 8k miles I sincerely doubt you will have any issues but a search of this site will turn up various possible issues. It is a honda so it is very reliable.

I will chime in as well. I pretty much agree with everything bronxbomer252 said.
1. Easy answer, no. If you want to do some custom work, it may be possible. Some people actually cut into their dash to to replicate the look of JDM and some EDM S2000s that have the navi included. Even some single DIN headunits don't fit because of the radio cover. There's an Electronics forum here that may be of some help (with lots of pictures too).
2. It is a Honda afterall, and the torque number is low. It's fine enough to get around every day, but it will not compare to a Mustang GT or the Z that you had. The gearing is pretty high, so it feels as though the torque is higher than it actually is. I would say go test drive one and see how you like it. In terms of performance, the Z and S2000 are pretty much on par. The new 350Z (07 and up are faster). The 370Z is obviously faster too.
3. Take a look around this site for this info. There shouldn't be anything really wrong at 8K miles, but you never know, it is a used car after all. Check the normal things, and then look at S2000 specific things (search this site).
Good luck.

Thanks for the responses so far. I really like the look of the car especially the one I am looking at silverstone with the red/black interior. The car is mint I test drove it a couple of weeks back but it was dark and the ground was wet so I wasn't able to get on it. I'm not happy I can't install a navi in it. I saw those custome mounted ones, they look good, but I am sure they cost upwards of 3 grand with the unit. As far as the torque goes, I am pushing 340 hp and 360 tq right now but I don't really ever use it. It is very rare that I even push my car to wot so its kind of a waste. The other negative is the dealers are really trying to screw me on my trade in. But the s2000's really hold their value well! The carfax on the particular one I am looking at is clean but I know that means squat. Also, I can purchase a 3 year 36,000 mile warranty but its 2gs. Do you guys think thats worth it? I do believe the car has 2 years left on its drivetrain warranty. Thanks again guys.
Howdy!
I came from a modified Z06 which was as you might imagine a good bit more stout than a stock or even NA modified S2K.
The driving experience in an S is substantially more fun though. Since I was coming from a hardtop car, the change for me was a little more radical, but even on the rare occasion with the top up, it's still a blast to drive.
This is my first Honda and I had no worries about not extending the warranty. I picked up my '07 last November and it was under warranty till about April of this year so I had some time with coverage, but it's been flawless. It's not daily driven so I don't put on many miles (only about 3K over a year).
I knew in advance the stereo HU was limited to a single DIN and no flipups (without major mods), but it's wasn't much of a factor (I just installed an Alpine IDA-X100 which is a nice upgrade and not too pricey).
I went used this time around too (the Z was new as well as the previous C5 Coupe), but if you keep an eye out, you can score pretty solid deals. FYI, my car is the same color you're shopping, Silverstone with black/red interior. For reference, I paid $19.9K a year ago for this '07 with 10.5K miles and it was pretty mint, single older owner - I bought it from Chicago and had it shipped down.
We're having a really great time with the car (FL is a great place for a convertible) and around town the really short gearing makes it really fun. You have to engage with the car a little more to wring out the maximum performance, but that's part of the fun.
The S2000 is one of the best looking car designs ever which was one of the major factors in my decision to buy one. With a little drop, and even some aftermarket wheels they look pretty amazing. I get comments on the car all the time (and with my Rick's S badges, people can't even figure out what it is
)

Like DT, I also came from a modded Z06, mine making 436rwhp. I've had my S for almost a week now and have absolutely no regrets. Like you, I never used the power in my Z06. It's so much smoother to drive and still plenty fun. The car has a lot more torque than the '07 Civic Si I had (K20 engine) and is fine shifting at 3-4k RPMs accelerating normally. It won't be a monster down low but it's not exactly a pig compared to other 4 cylinder engines.
If you are worried about the warranty, my friend got an aftermarket warranty for his used vette which cost him a couple of grand but they did pay up when he needed some things fixed. And I believe the warranty was a lot longer than 36,000 miles. Since then he has been using them for any car he buys. I am not sure of the name of the company but I want to say it was warranty direct.

Coming from a Mustang GT and a 350Z you are going to notice the difference on the low end torque. However you can all ways supercharge it and you can have a field day with the Z and the Must GT's. The S2000 is made for the country back roads curves at speed. The car handles like a Go-Kart. Regarding the radio not to much option in that department. Miles seem low for an 06 but would inspect for body and/or mechanical work
