Possible to remove dash remote control panel?
Does anyone know if it is possible to remove the dash audio remote controls (replace the whole section and just keep the start button) and use the space for other controls? Is that left panel surrounding the current buttons a separate removable part or would i have to cut it out?
One control configuration i'd like is:
- top left: Sony audio joystick remote control
- bottom left: start button (where it is now)
- top right: rear window heater (hardtop)
- bottom right: headlight washer button
That would move those buttons that i keep pushing with my elbow away from the center console, and of course give me full remote controls.

Bassman,
I would say yes, but it looks like from behind. See part #12, it looks like a screw from the back. Plus if you look at the right side of it, you can see two holes which look like screw holes. You can check out all the cool s2000 part diagrams here: http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/ind...846&CatalogID=2
That site rules.
for convenience, here's the diagram.

BTW, you have a sony deck? I'm currently working on a way to hook up the dash controls to the deck using using an adapter that acts like the wired remote you're planning on mounting. Do you know anything about circuits?

almilli, thanks! Just what i was looking for! It sure looks like it could be possible. Just make a replacement module for the controls... hmmm...
I have a basic knowledge about electronics, but it was too long since i attempted to build something. I'm going to try to use the Sony RM-X4S remote, either as is or take it apart and integrate it with (the existing or new) dash controls. Perhaps you should look at buying one too, you'd get some of the components and cables you need at a decent price i think.
This is a long-term project, don't expect quick results...

Yeah, the remote I'm trying to make the adapter for is the Sony RM-X4S and RM-X2S. I have the remote and took it apart to study it. So I know what needs to be done, just the how to is a little tough. I actually contacted an EE major that is going to help me design it. I think once I get it all working, I'll post the circuit and maybe sell the device for those who don't want to build it. BTW, love the pics of the hardtop. Do you have any of the interior with it on? Oh, and did you install it yourself? Did you get instructions for the install? Was the wiring harness for the defroster already in your car? or did you need the extra kit?
Thanks
David

Allright, if you get there before i do, perhaps i can send in an order?
I mounted the hardtop myself, it was not very difficult (no instructions supplied though). My car already had the wiring in and behind the center console, it was just a matter of connecting an extra supplied cable.
I'll try taking some pics later today of the view from inside, for this other thread
