Potential Dogbox for the S2k
yeah, totally different story, but I went from a stock transmission to a street/track trans back in the day in one of my mustangs, and the gears were only slightly less helical (think that is the term for "not straight") and even that would wear on me on longer drives.
can only imagine what this would be like, yikes.

Why would you give someone the trans?

No synchros means a crunch every time you engage first gear from a stop...if the engine is running.
Plus otherwise super noisy.

Laugh all you want wise guys. I can take it. At least I was man enough to ask. So I imagine that it is a stregthened gear set for the gear box?
What the subaru people do with their shitty tranny's is straight cut 1-3 and leave the rest of the gears alone. In that way they can cruise quietly while still having the strength in the lower gears.
"Dog Box" doesn't mean straight cut gears. You can have straight cut with synchos or a dog box with helical cut gears. What a "dog box" is is a tranny where the gears engage using square cutouts cut into the gears instead of the teeth that a synchro has in it. Without the synchros the gears can be much beefier in the same space than a synchro used to take up.
Downside of a dog-box is regular repair. They wear out quickly and need periodic tear downs. If you drive poorly, you might kill the tranny in a single session or if you're good it might last years.

Ok, so I watched the vid on there site and I have to say that is cool, but how come fifth gear dose not whine as laud as the rest is it the gear ratio or something completely different
