the best jacking points are not on the sides anyway, imo!!

best jacking points are in the center of the car

maybe this works:
(right side of the page for floor jack)

Even if you don't, the first mechanic that puts your car on a lift will.
If the mechanic is one of ours, I want to know about it.
There's no excuse for bending the car to get it up in the air.

I've just seen a lot of screwed up jack points. Scuffed or bent areas near the jack points on the outside edge of the car. Nothing that would hurt the frame, but certainly the type of stuff that would annoy the OP. You can usually put a lift on part of the unibody frame on the front of (the average) car, but the outside edge "jack-point" was usually the only place in the back. Next time your car goes up on a lift, see if a block of wood is used at the jack points.

I worked about 5 years as a mechanic in the early 90s, and seen some stuff that would turn you hair white.

That picture looks like they're saying the rear jacking point should be the diff? I must be missing something, but since the diff has rubber mounts going to the frame that seems like a really bad place to jack from.

The rear center jack point IS the diff. That picture is from the Helms service manual for the S2000.

... but please put a jack pad or block of wood between the diff and the floor jack.

As far as using a floor jack on the side jack points...DON'T. You will eventually. if not immediately damage the rib. The rib isn't meant to carry the load, the points just inside and outside of the rib are. Notice how the rib fits into the SLOT on the scissors jack.

When a mechanic lifts the car the pads extend over a much greater length of the rib than your floor jack, which is supporting the rib over a couple of quarter inch lengths. This distribution helps reduce the likelihood that the rib will deform.

If you must use a floor jack on the sides, at least use a slotted piece of wood slid over the rib.

Don't just shove the jack under the car and jack it up either. You could easily end up distorting the floor of the car. I did this on a civic years ago and it weighed a lot less than the s2k does.

Can't go wrong following the helm manual. Good post, wanabe.
