Default Price difference in gear ratios...

I've done quite a bit of searching on different gear ratio's and have read the reviews by a lot of people, on what it works best with and the application... when searching to buy some, i realize that the 4.56 gears by Ricks cost $590, but the 4.57R gears by hardtop guy costs $2500+ can anyone tell me if the R has a change, or what is it? why such a drastic price difference?

Thanks..

That price has to include a diff core exchange. Go back and look at it again. Change a few options around.

Hardtop includes everything from differential to install. You will see GB's on 4.44 and 4.77 for less than what you stated.

ALL gear sets will end up costing your around 1000 if you stay with a stock diff and around 1400 if you get the reinforced one. Add 100 extra to pay someone for installation.

So, 1100 for stock diff, 1500 for reinforced one.

The 590 price you saw was for the ring and pinion - which will do you no good without spending another 5-600 getting it installed.

You can't go wrong with either seller. I chose HTG.

with using HTG. They will install it correctly which can be an issue if you have a local "tranny" shop do it. Setting the backlash is critical. If done wrong you'll get alot of whine. From HTG it is shipped installed and you'll need to ship back your old diff, but swapping out the entire assembly is cake compared to cracking open your existing one. Just gotta front the core charge.

When the time finally comes for me it'll be HTG.

HTG + Rick's + Science of Speed all sell the EXACT SAME GEAR.

The 4.56 (aka 4.57) R or not all come from the same batch order.

I think they all sell it for the same price: $590

The other costs may be for installation, various diff housings (+ core exchange) yada yada.

I did a cost break down on another thread, if you car to search, but it went something like this:

$699.20 for gear + yellow box + shipping from SOS
$350 gear install (excl. diff fluid)
$40 yellow box install
$20 diff fluid change after 1k miles (exc. diff fluid)
-----------
$1,109.20 total (+ 2 qts diff fluid)
