As others have mentioned, if you want to see out of control prices, look no further than the older Porsche market. S2000 prices are almost nothing in comparison.

Take the Turbo s2k in IL fs on here right now. He wants 22.5k for a 2000 S2k, turbo'd, rebuilt ish on it, 126k miles... That car is literally worth ~10k. I wrote to him asking if he was negotiable and he wouldn't go down more than a few thousand. That car will never, ever, in 500 years sell for 18k unless a total schmuck wants it. He even thought it was worth upwards of 14k stock. For a 2000 S2k. With 126k miles.

This is the typical S2k owner, in my experience. Not trying to bash on him, but people have very delusional ideas of what their car is worth. Yeah, it's a nice looking car, but at its core it's a 2000 S2k with 126k miles on it.
All he needs to do is find a total schmuck then

I considered Boxster, E46/90 M3, Z3M...the S2000 is just a winner with the combo of reliability, quality, and driver involvement. I wonder if prices were lower before as everything became turbo stock and that made the S seem gutless. But now, it's becoming apparent that turbos are the future and high revving NA cars are a dying breed.
If its an 06 it doesn't have all of the original interior from my understanding. 2006 GPWs were all black

I was in the market for an old aircooled 911 for 15 years. I educated myself on the different models and spent a considerable amount of time on rennlist and pelicanparts. I never bought one because I was busy doing responsible things like paying off the mortgage, investing my money, starting a family etc. Then, when I was finally in a position to justify buying an 78 to 89 SC/Carrera, the prices had jumped significantly and I was priced out of the market. It was quite dissapointing.

Last year, when I decided on the S2000 being a reasonable alternative for a 911, I started researching cars and noticed that the prices seemed to increasing just like the early days of the 911 bubble. I don't think the S2000 will have the same kind of bubble as the 911's but I'm glad I bought my 2009 at the end of last summer vs waiting for this spring. With the Canadian dollar being weak right now, the cost savings of buying a car from the US and importing are negated. There are not many to choose from within Canada and, when they do pop up for sale, they are priced quite high.

Over the long term, I don't expect the S2000 to rise or even hold value.....but there is a chance of limited depreciation which would be nice. If they do hold value or go up, that's a bonus. I figure with the S2000's advantage of less expensive parts/more reliable than an old 911.....even some depreciation would even out with a 911 going up in value as those cars can have repair bills that are quite high, especially on 30 year old cars needed engine rebuilds.

I've got an '86 911 that's already had the engine rebuild among other things. Of course like a 28 year old car, the next thing is a starter rebuild before I can drive it.

Paid $18K in '00 and could probably sell for $25-30K now, but I've got $10k plus in bills and a lot of elbow grease into it. No complaints, we've had some great times together.

Don't expect nearly the bills on my '06 S2000, but by the time it's 28 years old, I'll be doing more droolin' than drivin'.

Finding parts may be a little difficult down the line though.
