If it was really meant for a performace application then somebody else would have to be using it in a high performance application. Another issue is that since a belt is involved, it doesn't work well in high torque applications. Not a problem for the S2000 though

I'd have *considered* a SMG-type trans if it had been available when I got my S. I never would have gotten an S if a CVT was my only choice.
I drove one of the '96 Civic HX with the CVT. I think it would have been a great commuter car. But I never would have thought it would be good for a performance oriented application.
