A problem of recognition and respect
IDO914S, yup, that's because a lot of people buying the S2000 have it modded before they make their first payment. The S is cheap enough to lend itself to tuners of a slightly higher tax bracket than civic owners, but not expensive enough to insure it's longevity like Porsches. (Won't see many 20 yr. old 911 owners bolting on a supercharger or nitrous)
Maybe Honda needs a more expensive performance car that the owners respect enough that they'll leave it alone long enough to be viewed by others as a serious performance car. Oh, that's right they do, the NSX.
I bet there aren't many clueless shlubs out there who dis the NSX even if you told them it's a Honda.

Are you giving too much credit to all of the clueless shlubs in the world!
btw, what is a shlub anyway?
When asked about the S2000, I just casually mention a few technical details, such as the HP/cc output, the rev limit at 9k(they usually go bonkers at the rev limiter), the torsen limited slip diff, the technically ingenious electric steering assist, the 6-speed close ration gearbox, the double wishbone (almost)in-wheel suspension, the top speed . . . . . etc. etc..
I rather enjoy this especially as their jaws continue to drop until their chin is dragging on the ground.
Try it, its fun!!
After all, the "Prosche" reputation wasn't built overnight either.
