Punk Quotient
I've been looking at buying an s2k for a couple of months, but I'm starting to change my mind. These are great cars, but I'm wondering if the punk quotient is getting too high.
Reading this board you'd think the average s2k owner is a future college/highschool dropout who's spending all the money his parents think is going to books on bling (carbon fiber = the new chrome). It's almost worth another 10 grand just to not be associated with that (M roadster - I'd rather be thought of as a BMW dick than a wet behind the ears ricer punk).
The stats say the average purchaser is 50+. What they don't tell you is how many of those cars are going to their kids and/or mistresses.
I'm curious what the consensus is. I expect three different kinds of responses:
1) Who else drives it shouldn't matter...
2) su u old fart u just yappin cuz ur daddy wuz too poor to buy u a cool car...
3) Yeah I hate those punks too. It's a shame about the airbags or there might be fewer of them...

You need to be more clear as to what issue you want people to repond.

the negative to this option is my insurance rates will increase due to the higher risk factor of the car. I'm willing to pay.

Who cares? I just enjoy driving my car, regardless of this "punk quotient." If it bothers YOU to drive YOUR OWN CAR, you're the one with the issues.
I saw a kid driving a 360 Spyder earlier this summer. Punk-@$$ with a backwards baseball cap, revving at every stop light. Will that stop me from getting a 360/430? NO!
Just get one and enjoy it. Unless people mistake YOU for a 18 year old punk, you really don't have too much to worry about.

All the other S2000 owners I've met in my area are respectful, mature, and courteous, very few punk kids if any. Your results may vary. This board actually has a pretty good percentage of intelligent people who can construct a useful post, all while using proper grammar, spelling, and without once using the term "mad skillz."
Then again, if you're really THAT concerned with how a vehicle's subliminal associations affect your image, perhaps you would be happier in a Hummer or a Porsche.
