Default Question about buying S2K

Hey Guys, Im planning to buy an s2k real soon, just saving up for the down payment for a loan. My question is the procedure of the paperwork. Can I go to another state, buy the car and just drive it home or do I need to prepare and complete the paperwork before I drive it home. Thank you for your advice in advance !!!

First off, welcome! When I sold my STi, the person who bought it came from Texas, I live in Florida. All he brought was a check and we had a bill of sale, we had the title in hand. He bought the car then we went to the local DMV and he paid the taxes for his state (you can pay your state taxes in another state) and got a temp tag then he drove it home. I'm not sure if its the same in all states but that's what happened in Florida.

If you're talking about a loan, its best to get approved for your loan in your state first then travel to pick it up.

I hope I was able to explain what you're looking for! Best of luck to you!

I bought mine in VA (I'm in MD) and all I brought was cash, and the dealer gave me temp tags (still no sign of a ttitle though...). You "could" drive it home with a set of tags from another car, if you dont drive crazy, but I wouldnt risk it across state lines, just because of the distance.

It would help to know what state you're in. Without that info, Google your state and look up what it takes to transfer a title. Not all states are identical.

Exactly.

And what can be fun, as I experienced, is when you live in Kansas and move to a state such as Missouri that requires an inspection of all new registered vehicles (from out of state) and also requires an new inspection every two years....and my S2000 has a test pipe. Needless to say, I had to work a way around it, but what a pain in the ass just to register a car.

I checked out New Jersey DMV site, It seems like I need to make atleast 2 trips to be able to drive home with the car. I might just get it shipped. Any good shipping companies that you guys would recommend?
