Question for AP1 and AP2 people.

I know this topic comes up too often, but in a bid to help out the OP I would encourage you also to think about how often you have a passenger in your car. I am biased in that I have an AP1 and love it. When I am working my way through the gears on a winding road with the top down I think it is absolutely perfect. Everything about the car absolutely works for me.
However, pretty much every time I am cruising around the city with a passenger I wish I could switch to an AP2.
I would personally say that neither is better than the other - each has its own personality. Drive both and go for the one that you feel you mesh with, the one that you feel was made specifically for you.

Didn't they simply pick the one they liked better?
The gear changes aren't that different. The biggest difference in normal driving is the power band of the AP2, which is 4-10% higher that an AP1s due to the revised gearing, cams, ECU, etc. There's just more available power across the rpm range.
Driving in traffic, and with an extra person in the car, all exacerbate the relative lack of power before VTEC in an AP1.

See for me I'm at a toss up on which to pull the trigger on.
AP1 pros: rear glass, 9k redline, rear bumper cap for single exhaust, 2.0L
Ap1: cons: Old
AP2 pros: rear glass, front bumper w/lip, tailights, headlights.
AP2 cons: rear bumper, 8300k redline. (I know not a diff but I love knowing the AP1 has a 9k rev)

I have an AP1 I bought 7 years ago. I've thought of selling and getting an AP2 as I like the 2.2 better for boost. All things I don't like about ap2 as much would be changed. Redline, lack of raw feel etc. so I'd love to have a newer S2000 and swap over parts from my ap1. Sc, suspension, exhaust, wheels etc.
My car having so many miles I couldn't sell it for much which is why I haven't sold it and bought an AP2 yet.

They each have their pros and cons. the gauge is 100x nicer on the ap2 as well as the center console, headlights and tails. I have an AP1 but i have the JDM tac so its ap2 with a 9k redline
all in all, i think the ap2 looks nicer to be honest. plus i hate the fact i can't use flashpro when i go FI
