Default A questionable cheap air intake alternative...

Hello.....I was talking to some friends of mine who live in Switzerland, and they said that the thing that everyone does to their S2k there is remove the air intake cone from inside the box and replace it with a panty hose (stocking). They INSISTED that even with the air box left intact that it increases both the power and sound of the car. All you have to do is change it every 2 months just in case it tends to get old. What are your thoughts? At least the airbox is still left in place so your still getting cold air. Let me know what you guys think.

Are you suggesting the removal of the stock air filter and somehow put panty hose over the inlet?! I did a double take, no, a triple take just to make sure that I was reading that correctly...

Me thinks that someone over in Switzerland is pulling your leg...! Do they have the equivalent of April Fool's Day over there? If so, I would suspect that whenever it was that you talked with them about this that their April Fool's Day is that same day!

Panty hose is not a suitable replacement for an air filter. The filter is designed to keep debris out of the engine. You think panty hose is going to stop a rock from getting sucked into the engine?

BOOM!

I know I wear fishnet stockings when I'm drag racing .

Seriously, this is the sort of mod that will void a good deal of your warranty.

Unless, of course, you have a very good relationship with your dealer, and they are a transvestite.

Air filters do hurt performance. Take your filter off and you WILL suck more air. Your engine might not live as long, however. Works great on dragster engines that get rebuilt every 6 runs anyway...

As for engine PROTECTION, I wonder what the micron filtration rating of panty-hose is Brand prefference?

Come on people ... we all know the truth ... pantyhose belongs in one place and one place only. Over are heads!

MuHaHaHa! This thread is absolutely full of it ... Hmm anyway, I'm another to disapprove of using that as an alternative for a filter. Don't ... Because if we the crazy Japanese have not tried, done and test with no problems ... No one else should attempt such crazy acts.
