While I have tried valiantly for over 2 hours to add photos and remove some old ones, your site is not user friendly and therefore, they seem to be all over the place. Sorry for this.
I do have a question regarding Bring a Trailer. Has anyone dealt with these people as I have some concerns about their auction results which seem to be all over the place.
I want to list my AP1 with a realistic reserve in the low 30's and they want to low ball me in the 29K range despite sales of similar one owner, 32000 mile AP1 and 2's going for upward to the mid to high $40's, which I would love to get, but doubt that this will happen. Also they claim the AP1 are worth far less "as most people want the AP2 which are better cars". I, as many of you, disagree as it seems to be that one either likes the AP1's vs the AP2's pretty evenly.
Has anyone worked with them? If so, what has been your experience?
I rather see one of us by my 2002 AP1 at the realistic private party value than deal with the potential aggravation dealing with BAT.
They are so busy they are passive aggressively telling people that want a reserve to go away. Unless it's a truly rare car.
All this business is going to cars and bids. However, results are weaker there IMO.
Your car appears very well cared for but is just another black MY2002 S2000. Advertise it here and on AutoTrader but I think it will sit for months at your asking price. (Hope I'm wrong.)
Auction sites like BAT attract those seeking special cars and other than some rare models or colors ours ain't special to anyone but us. Unless there's one or two buyers who just gotta have a very common albeit well cared for 2002 black S2000 BAT will probably not get you a high price and once you commit to the auction you're obligated to sell at whatever the auction brings. There are probably thousands of black S2000s available in many markets so I think your price exceptions are delusional. <--- Note the smiley.
I want to offer my pristine example to a buyer who appreciates the cars originality and provenance and will continue to care for this as I have done since I brought it new in 2002.
Who cares if this car goes to a good home? These are cars not puppies. I won't care what's done to my S2000 once it leaves my ownership. Nor should anyone.
Good luck on your sale. But this isn't high season for convertible car sales even in South Carolina.

The reserve is defined by them as to the realistic minimum they think it'll sell for after thousands of auctions. They don't want to invest their time and money in an auction that doesn't sell - it's a business. If they think you're on the crackpipe on low end for reserve they are going to tell you. Your other option is to offer it with "No Reserve" in the title and get a lot more eyes on it.

I think you're right - not sure if it's just a bigger following or people still skeptical about C&B. Doug Demuro has a video about this very thing. He has to explain often to people why your reserve needs to be more reasonable (see video below)

I agree with everything Chuck said. Sell it here in the S2ki marketplace for your asking price. If the car is truly worth what you're asking then this is the best place for other S2000 enthusiasts who know the value. For every car you see on BAT there are dozens that sell for a lot less in the typical market
Here's my input...
I listed my s2k here and on Autotrader. I had it listed for 37.5k. It sat for weeks and I had 0 inquiries or interest.
I ended up listing it on Cars and Bids auction site. They suggested a reserve of 27k and I ended up agreeing to 29.5k.
It was a risk of course that i would only end up getting 29.5k for the car if it only sold for reserve, this is always a risk on an auction site.
I ended up getting 36k for the car which is only 1.5k less than I had it listed for. Had I just kept it on Autotrader, I probably would have let it go for lower than that...?? Depends on how long it sat and how much interest it had.
I didn't go with BaT as I felt that auction site was completely saturated and only VERY low mile and completely STOCK S2000's did well on that site - which mine was not.
He did have it listed for sale here for $35k back in August …….he still has it……(well, actually $34,950…)

That’s good feedback. I often wonder about one site against another and find it interesting your results.
