i dont think you should bother with a salvaged vehicle,, not worth the troubles.. even though you saved some $.. in your head, you always know it has been salvaged

Does anybody know a good website that explains "salvage titles" in good detail?

Many thanks in advance.

Before you buy, go read a copy of the Consumer Reports article, "Buying a Wreck." It tells you everything you need to know about this industry, including how a title can be cleaned. It was published within the last couple of months and will be in your local library. Consumer Reports subscribers to their on line service can get the information on line. I reread it tonight and it is a great article.

I would NEVER buy a salvage for street use.

I have some experience w/ salvage titles for bikes, which are fairly common. My general rule is that they're great for track bikes if you can get them cheap, but pay the extra $ for a clean example w/ good title if it's for the street.

Here is a thread on a poor guy who bought a used S2000 (in Georgia) that was passed off as a car with a clean title. The car was actually totalled some months earlier:

Don't trust what somebody tells you, if the car was totalled, there was serious damage.
