I used to be. Back in the mid 70's my friends and I would spend weekends up in Watkins Glen, New York watching the LeMans type races to decide the manufacturers championship and the United States Gran Prix. And we see the various sportscar races that would preceed those events. Those were my favorite. I watched Nascar from time to time, but didn't really get into it. Nascar was very late in coming to the NY metropolitan area. I think that Nascar is the kind of racing that to really enjoy, you have to attend a few races and there were none around here until lately.

In the late 70s Watkins Glen feel out of favor and the races were no longer held there. The Glen was the "glue" that kept me interested, and with the glue went much of my interest. By the early 80s I'd sold my last MG for an Accord and married life.

Recently, I've rediscovered Formula 1, largely due to this board. Today, after reading Ohio, Laj and you speak of Nascar, I think I might start watching. Maybe even attend a few races with you guys (if you can tolerate a Nascar newbie).

What you've said about football is remarkably true. I've never much been into football, and my colleagues can't understand that. They especially can't understand why I love sportscars.

Another nice thing that happened last night is that people spontaneously sang "God Bless America" during the show. Quite moving...

You need to come and see it at least once...The mall is an experience, but watching it from the Iwo Jima grounds with the Washington and Lincoln monuments and the Capitol framed by trees and the river I think is the most beautiful view.

Sunny, hot and 95 today...
Hi Deb,

That sounds like a wonderful display. One I do want to get to see one day is the annual Louisville KY display on the Ohio river in spring. They close one of hte bridges across the river and float several large barges by it in the middle. THe entire bridge is wired with fireworks as are the barges, and the display they put on is incredible. It's been featured on Discovery Channel a couple of times.

Saturday 7/5/03 @ 9AM. Thunderstorms have moved on, it's sunny and clear, and 75* going up to mid-80s. Going to today.

Tom
