Sounds like aftermarket to me, but easy way to find out (this is what i did) trace the wires from the black button until you find a control box. On there should be sensitivity adjustment (if it has one) as well as a name and model number. You should be able to lookup instructions online.

Otherwise my exp. with alarms is that they arm when you lock the car and disarm when unlock using the remote. The black button should be your off button.

Also most alarms let you set it in valet mode, which basically disables the alarm so the valet doesn't have to worry about working it, maybe on your model the valet mode checks to make sure that if the center container is locked that the trunk stays locked as well (since you would lock the center box and give the valet his designated key which doesn't open that or the trunk).
Hmmm, good call. I'll check that out.

Here's another nagging question I have. In the manual it says to never operate your sunroof while the engine is running. Does it really matter if the engine is running, or is this just a safety thing? You already have to have the parking break on, and it doesn't drain the battery or anything like that, so I'm not sure what the point is? Anyone know? Do you guys turn your car off just to put your top up-down?

OK, here's another one for you. When I lock/unlock the car the parking lights flash. The right front is rather random about it. Sometimes it flashes, sometines it doesn't. The parking lights and turn signals seem to work just fine. Any ideas why the random operation of the right front on lock/unlock?

I think the Honda lawyers got a hold of it and put that in there. They want to make as sure as possible that as many contingencies as possible is covered. I rarely have my engine off when operating the top. I'd rather have the charging system going when there's that kind of draw.

If in fact, it does this and it wasn't just a matter that sometimes you just blinked at that precise moment or it was the angle of the sun, then I'd say you have a glitch. Not worth tearing the car apart unless you are sure it's happening. Even if you are sure, as long as the lights work otherwise, does it really matter?

Maybe your car just likes winking at you when you lock up like " I bet you just enjoyed that you bad boy "

Why is the tire/oil/etc information always on the passenger side when it's the driver who usually needs to look at it??

yes that sounds like the factory alarm to me. The button below the steering column is used for a few things.. without the seperate alarm manual I couldn't tell you what except that I've used it to turn off the alarm when I start the car with the FOBs that don't control the alarm.

All alarm system, factory or aftermarket, have an "emergency" reset switch for if your battery is dead in your remote and you have to unlock the car using the key. This switch can usually be used to put the alarm into vallet mode as well using some kinda of combination (ex turn car on, turn car off, hold switch for 5 secs, turn car on again).

I'm surprised this thread hasn't broached the subject of the S not being able to go 1 mph...
