Default Rear Bumper Costs

I just got an price quote est. to paint my rear bumper(2 inch of scratch no dents from hit and run) and it costs 830 dollars to repaint bumper + labor.

Isn't getting a brand new bumper + install @ the dealer would be cheaper or am i dreaming? but 830 to repaint the whole bumper seems to be ALOT to me.

Help me out here.

Yes, that is an astronomical amount. You can get a brand new painted bumper for 5-6 hundred online.

Or, shop around for a used one in your color. www.car-parts.com is a good place to start.

i mean if i order the bumper myself, it won't be too hard to install right? or take it to a dealer to install would still be cheaper than paying 800 bucks.

My S2K has been hit 8 times in 4 years. 7 of the 8 resulted in damage to the rear bumper. $800 is more than I paid for any 2 of my estimates combined and I always raised hell and insisted on new, original Honda parts.

Heck, number 7 of 8 resulted in my frame being bent, the rear deck lid was a loss, both tail lamps, the rear bumper was shot, both quarter panels were bent, and the soft top had to be removed so that they could properly fade the paint after the work was done. All of that only cost $3400. I find it unlikely that the bumper was 1/4 of the bill.

^yeah that is pretty horrible, and I've had a pretty bad record of crap happening to me - 2 or 3 hit and runs, multiple vandalisms, an entire theft of my last car...

300 for a repaint sounds normal. Or, you could buy a used bumper for that much in your color and sell yours for 100 and make some of it back - depends on how patient you are.

This is the real catch in the reality of my bad luck: my car has never been moving when it was hit. In fact, it was parked in a clearly marked space when it was hit 6 of the 8 times.

The other 2 I was stopped at traffic lights and smacked from behind.

My car is like a promiscuous teenager. Every time I leave her sitting alone for one minute she gets nailed.
