Default Rear Ended

The other day it was raining and all around just crappy weather. I had one of those bad feelings before leaving my house, but I ignored it and went on. I went to pick up my little cousin from High School, I was rear ended on right when I left his school. A jeep in front of me slammed their brakes, and I did everything in my power to keep from hitting them.. I stopped with about an inch to spare. I look up in the mirror, and a Ford Freestyle comes barreling into the back of my car at about 20-30 mph. Her car was completely fine. Mine on the other hand, well... A picture is worth a thousand words. Her insurance is being slow and I probably won't see an adjuster for about a week seeing how Easter is coming up. Just wanted to get an opinion on how much this will end up being. Or if it's a total loss?

It is an '07 btw.

What you can't see: Rear panel of the trunk is heavily damaged. The trunk well is pushed forward and parts of the seams are separated between the trunk panels. Driver side tail light is broken on the top back area under the trunk lid. All lower brackets for the bumper are destroyed. Impact beam looks to be done for too. And as I was driving (limping) it home, I had a pretty bad vibration at low speeds coming from the rear.

I have people telling me it isn't bad, and others telling me that it's most likely totaled. Just wanted to get more opinions.

I'm not an expert but all I can say is that sucks and I really feel for you.

In my non-expert opinion, that is a lot of $$$ worth of damage. Having said that, an '07 with 50-60k miles is still valued around $18-19k and I wouldn't think there's $18-19k worth of damage? But good luck to you.

They probably won't total it but it will be a few grand in parts alone. Good luck and glad you are ok!!

My first AP1 got wrecked almost exaclty like that. If I recall correctly (this was in 2003 so take that into account) the repair cost ended up being ~$6k but the impact did not damage any of the rear suspension components.

ouch

that is a sexy black ap2 my friend

i don't think it will get totaled. I had a Honda accord rear ended similar to your situation it was an easy fix for a body shop. you should receive a handsome check from adjuster.

let me know if you decide to sell the top, worst case scenario.

goodluck!

It's hard to say whether it is totaled or not without a doubt, but I would expect the repair bill to exceed $10,000 as there very well could be frame damage from the bumper being smashed in.

What's more certain is the adjuster will lowball you, so I recommend taking it to a high end shop for a proper estimate. Sorry about the car, but at least you were able to stop in time for the Jeep so it isn't coming out of your insurance.
