Rear Ended
Any front end damage? With you having just an inch to spare before you got hit, I would assume you were pushed into the car in front of you as well. If there is front end damage, it definitely could be up to 10k+ in repairs
Paint materials would not cost $1K. If you're stating 1k for paint as in painting the car, so $9k in parts?
As someone mentioned above, this may very well go beyond "replacing parts with new ones". Even aside from the paintwork there may be frame work required. All expert labor (parts removal/replacement, paint, frame work) is going to be billed $$$ per hour.

If that's 10k worth of damage I am opening a autobody shop. From what we see, maybe at most 1k in parts?

Paint materials don't cost 1k, but all of the other parts will. Look up everything you see damaged there and add them up, then account for labor to paint and install. Frame damage? That's a lot of labor because it takes time to set up the car on the machine and straighten. Factor in a high end shop because you want it to be done and look right and you would get around the 10k mark.
if the chassis has been just slightly put out of line then most insurance company's aim for a total loss...if this happens you get your payout, you could then purchase the car from the company and have it repaired yourself, obviously a record would remain of its history etc, this is what my friend did when he was rear ended in his M3.
$1,000 won't account for new OEM parts though, and don't forget the diffuser as well. AP2 tail lights aren't cheap either, and it will need two of them by the sounds.
I actually had the same thing happen to me on the freeway several years ago, and I got pushed into the car in front of me. There ended up being more damage to the front of my car than the rear.
