i don't think it will get totaled. I had a Honda accord rear ended similar to your situation it was an easy fix for a body shop. you should receive a handsome check from adjuster.

let me know if you decide to sell the top, worst case scenario.

goodluck!
Thanks, it's actually Deep Burgundy Metallic. Looks black in the shade. So paint will be more than a normal repair for a Berlina like everyone thinks it is. Top will be for sale if it's a total loss, but I refuse to ship it.

That's kind of what I'm afraid of. I'm almost positive the frame is tweaked a little just from looking at the damage inside the trunk.

Have nothing to offer but to say I'm sorry. Damn that is painful to see.

I'm going to guess that's a total loss. I got rear ended a week ago and my car looks nothing like that and the estimate is still $3000.

Here's a link to my undesirable situation:

I do auto damage for a large insurance company. This is going to depend when a tear down commences. Best case scenario is that the SUV hit high. You are looking like replace the trunk bumper rear body panel and impact bar. If the SUV directly nailed your impact bar then you may have kinked one, if not both of the rails. Did the rear body panel separate from the trunk floor? Is the trunk floor pushed in or twisted up? My initial guess is the frame rails are not kinked. They could be slightly swayed up and/or over.

One big question. Is the right or left quarter buckled even the slightest? Take a look up high, almost where the back outer edges of your hardtop rests. Look for a bowed out wheel arch too.

Quarter panel damage is hard to tell on my car because it's had an aggressive fender roll and they buckled above the arches. But the only damage I see on the panels themselves is that they have split down the 90 degree seam there the rain channels are for the trunk. They might be slightly pushed forward, but nothing that I can tell. And the trunk panels aren't separated from the floor, but I have noticed some of the spot welded areas have split and the sealant has popped off of the joints in some places. She hit high and the trunk panels took most of the impact, but the crash beam did get hit. I don't know how hard because I can't see it yet.

Thanks for the help. I haven't heard from insurance yet. I made the claim Tuesday morning and haven't heard back since.

Did a little looking further in, and yes, the trunk floor has a slight upward bow right behind the strut bar. The frame rails that run back from where the rear sub frame bolts to look like they are bent downward slightly too. And the quarter panel has a small bow right behind the hard top. Insurance still hasn't come out to look at it though. But I'm sure it has frame damage.

Adjuster still hasn't come yet?

I think they are supposed to come within the first couple weeks by law from what I read last weekend, so if not by the end of this week I wonder if that gives you anything to work with. I could be wrong about the two weeks, but for my accident it was the first couple days.

Yeah. I was being a little lenient because it was Easter weekend, I understand. But I'm calling them in the morning. She has the same insurance as me, so I might request to handle it with my agent if hers continues to drag his ass.

Just got off the phone with him. They apparently couldn't get in touch with their main offices to establish liability or something. I think they just didn't do anything about it. Anyways, they have everything sorted now and are sending an adjuster in 3-5 days. Maybe sooner.
