Rear-ended...

My car is not the biggest thing going in my life and it shouldn't be to yours. Honestly, the time is what kills me. Even the time it takes to get into the rental car and my car towed to the body shop. With my professional life it's hard to book out the time to run and get things done outside of work hours - and most body shops are only open during business hours. What kills me in the $1000's lost in productivity and distractions from the things that matter during the work day.... my figures.
If someone makes a mistake, blowing up at them is stupid. If they're drinking/driving and hit you, get angry.
If you're hung up on your car, never drive it. Things wear, stone chips, accidents, pot holes, if you're not careful you'll see the whole world out to ruin your perfect car.
Clue in, the car was perfect and then you got it (assuming new purchase).
I get worked up about things that cannot be replaced, like my wife. My car, is insured and is a hunk of melt. My wife dies, not getting her back. My car gets totaled, I'm on to another one and someones insurance is paying.

I meant to say another car of equal or less value when i said new. But if you would like to nit-pick go right ahead dude.
Still, diminished value won't make a difference in the long run unless:
1. Your car is very new; and
2. You dispose of your car soon after the accident
Once a car's depreciation bottoms out, the diminished value from the accident is a moot point.

Being upset cause someone ruined a possesion of yours due to ignorance and negligence is not something uncommon. Yes my vehicle is a hunk of metal. However ITS MY HUNK OF METAL! Here comes some jerk and ruins it. It will never be the same. Ever. If it were my fault, ok i can deal with that. My stupid mistake. This could have been avoided. You took my post and made it larger than it was meant to be. Pure and simple. He should not have to compromise for the mistakes of the other person. He should be entitled to depreciated value or another vehicle of equal or lesser value depending on the damage. Ever since the induction of carfax you will get lowballed in sales on any "fender bender" that shows up. Thats not even including potential suspension damage that may not even show up intially after the accident. If you are content with compromising thats you. It doesnt apply to everyone.
I gather he was happier to know all the details then wonder about it with something that never got reported.
Get angry about things that matter, that was my point. Cars are not worth getting angry about. Maybe that girl that hit this guy lives a really tough life. Maybe she's so distracted because her step dad just beat her and she was running to a friends house for support. Maybe worse, she gets abused nightly.
I figure, that there is often a lot more going on in peoples life than what you know. Kindness goes a lot further then blowing up over a bumper.
OP how old are you? Someone hit you, a fender bender, it's called an ACCIDENT for a reason. You sound like your 18, in fact I hope the answer is around that.... I hope you've matured past that attitude at an older age.
Rob, that's why I like you
btw, me and minh will be setting up a drive for November

Sounds like your being a little extreme about all this, although i do understand why you would be upset.
When my front fender got hit by a friends door in a parking lot i didnt freak out at all. Sure it sucked and i was a little upset but there really was no reason to yell and scream. The end result was my fender being repaired to look like new and her paying the expense of the bill.
I understand that your accident was a little more involved but whats important is that you are satisfied in the end and of course that no one was hurt. Im sure she will learn her lesson simply by the cost of repairing your car, no need to fuss it will only make things worse.
It sounds like your being smart about it tho, report the accident, get an estimate you are satisfied with, then send her insurance the bill. At least you dont have to worry about how much your insurance is going to spike.

if anyone ever rear ended me they would regret it forever. It doesnt matter what the extent of the damage i would demand a new vehicle or a good chunk of money for the depreciated value. All people have to do is pay attention to avoid rear ending someone. I would be uber pissed too.

Nobody wants to rear end you. That's why it's called an accident. Nobody is perfect, and you might end up rear ending someone else too.
You can demand a hunk of money. But you won't get it. You'll have to accept it and live with it.
And yes, I received a check for about a thousand dollars for depreciation for an accident I had. Apparently GA is one of those states.
