If I'm driving hard, I shift before I see the light flash 3 times.

when i drive hard i shift when it just about to flash or flash once, if i don't drive hard and i happen to shift to red line i usually shift a couple hundred rpm before it reaches to the light.

Mine usually starts blinking right when the rev limiter is kicking in. In my old 03, it would blink about 2 times til the limiter would kick in. The Ap2's rev limiter definitley creeps up on ya a lot quicker than the Ap1, I hate it.

Where is there a shift light? Obviously not to effective because i have never seen it. Or is this a 2006+ thing? I just shift when it reaches the 8. Im starting to get the sound down where i dont have to eyeball the digi-tach at all.

and NO. It wont blow up because it blinked three times. Or because you hit the rev-limiter either.

Limiters prevent damage to an engine by interrupting the power that is distributed to the spark plugs, this prevents the engine from operating above a pre-determined RPM level known as the red-line. The RPM level that results with the spark being arrested can be a constant level, or, with the proper ignition control modules, variable. Variable rate ignition modules can be adjusted quickly and easily to achieve the appropriate RPM limit for different situations, such as street racing, drag racing, road course racing, highway driving, and lawn turfing.

No, it takes at least 4 flashes before the motor flies through the hood.

Actually though, you can bounce off the rev limiter (3-5 bounces at onces, not for 10 minutes) without too much worry. Just minimize the time at or above the redline. I hit the limiter a few times a month without issue.

Also I believe that the limiter in the S2000 is a fuel cut-off limiter, not an Ignition cut.

Finally it is possible to rev the motor beyond the limiter, and this is a very bad thing to do. the 3-2(instead of 4th) misshift can cause this...
