Reducing highway RPM?

This engine can handle revs up to 9,000 and your worried about cruising at 4000. If you used a longer final drive you would probably end up wasting more gas. You would be at a lower rpm that would require more throttle just for you to maintain a speed. RPM isn't the only factor in gas mileage.
There was a kid here that use to cruise on the highway at 7,000 rpm because he heard the engine runs best at those rpms. He didn't know any better he was a kid. Took him 4 years to finally blow his engine. When the engine was taken apart they found out the engine had spun rod bearings due to low oil. Point is your going to be fine as long as your oil is full. Saying 5000 rpm is abuse on such a high revving engine is silly. There's people that track their cars and are at anywhere from 7000 to 9000 rpm for 20 minutes sometimes more.

You've already gotten solutions but you seem to be ignoring them. They sell 3.90 final drive gears. Get yourself those and some taller tires. Problem solved.
Anyway, I agree with those of you who are saying that some people have purchased the wrong car. Why would you buy a two-seater sportscar that revs up to 9000rpm if you're going to complain about gas mileage?

Yeah, that's true. Since he already got the solutions, we might as well drop our facts.

When did I mention mileage? I mentioned excessively high cruising rpm. 5500 is abuse for six hours. The car should be able to go 90 without hurting it.
