Just did 1500 miles in four days driving down to San Diego. 4000 rpm at ~85mph would be fine. The gears are more than close enough together to take a drop in overall gearing.

You guys crack me up. You buy a sports car with a superb close-ratio 6 speed transmission, and then complain that it doesn't have overdrive for highway cruising. Wow...

I think the most reasonable answer is cruise at a lower mph.... I havent heard of such an option for our cars or anyone else who would want to do such a thing but to each his own good luck!
Agreed. When I drove mine home from VA, I had a hard time trying to make myself use to 5,000rpm at 90mph considering my last car was a 94 VR4 that could lug along at 100mph at about 3,000rpm.

Now I just chill 99% of the time on the highway, not going much over 60ish. Getting on the highway is a different stroy though

I just did a trip to and from VA. Cruise at 70-80. I averaged about 30-33 mpg. I don't have any problem with that.

My old 302 mustangs would cruise at a much lower RPM but I was happy to get 18 MPG HWY...

haha viper's cruise down the highway at 80 around 1100 rpm. They can hit 200 mph though.

This engine can handle revs up to 9,000 and your worried about cruising at 4000. If you used a longer final drive you would probably end up wasting more gas. You would be at a lower rpm that would require more throttle just for you to maintain a speed. RPM isn't the only factor in gas mileage.
