Default Removeable luggage racks

Hello,

I have a 2000 S2000 and I am looking into getting a removable luggage rack. I've seen several shown on Google and Youtube. I would like to get some opionos on which ones are the best.

Thank you,

Ken

I did a fair amount of research (including some European ones) and settled on the Surco DR 1005.

I bought a used one on eBay for $100. I added some oak slats. I treated them with airplane dope and riveted them on the rack. I wanted something to keep loose items off the trunk and I liked how the overall look of the wood added to the rack.

I wanted something that was easy to remove and install; it takes about 1 minute each way. No marring. If I had to do it all over again, I would do exactly what I did!

Here it without anything on it:

Nice to have for items that won't fit in the trunk:

Here is a close up, you can see the oak slats I added.

Close up of the clips to attach. You can do it finger tight and it is secure.

Here it is with the rear tire on. Sturdy. Had no issues with scratching or deformation. (Make sure the area under the rubber pads is absolutely clean) I made sure the load was distributed and drove carefully. In this case (far from home) it was invaluable for transporting the flat tire as the trunk was completely full and I had my wife with me. If I had not had the rack, I would have had to leave stuff on the side of the road.

Thanks for your reply. I don't know why they leave such a gap in the luggage rack. Why not just have a third slat.

I looked at racks (actually had one on my 1973 Capri) , but opted for a hitch and custom trailer. Higher cost but I can carry more stuff. Hopefully my signature will appear with my trailer build link.

I have the Surco luggage rack on my S, I installed it several years ago and have never taken it off. It is great for weekend trips when the +1 brings a suitcase of clothes and other items. I should remove it this spring when it is time to wax the S.

It would have been a shame if you had to leave her behind!

Does it have to be a rack?

Though I have no personal experience with this product, this is what I'm planning to get once I get an s2000...

I'd hate to have to put a rear wheel with a tire onto just an anti-slip pad if a rear tire went flat in the middle of nowhere. I like Cosmos' idea.
