Replacing front bumper (with OEM)? Anyone done it?
My car is nearing 100k miles (~94k now) and since I recently retired it from DD duty, I'm thinking of taking the trashed front bumper off, buying a new front bumper, and having it painted to match. I figure maybe $500 for all of this? That sound like the right ball park? And maybe another $300-500 for a clearbra afterwards? Because of the miles and the condition of the rest of the car (GOOD, but certainly not mint since it has the expected rock chips etc) I don't care if the repainted bumper only matches 95-98% instead of being a PERFECT match; anything will look better than the awful chewed up front bumper on there now.
Anyone done this recently? Am I in the right ballpark for cost? Potential pitfalls?

800 dollars just for paint? that's a rip off. You should be able to get a new bumper and paint for around $600.
This was for prep + paint.
Not at a macco or peach or whatever. A very reputable body shop quoted that.
FWIW, I have a reputable body shop I used when my S was hit when parked; I'd go back to the same guys, I just wanted to see if I was in the ball park.

Not quite the same I know, but I was quoted $375 to repaint the rear bumper on the S2000. This price was assuming that I bring the bumper in off of the car already (which is like 4 clips).
I'm sure your paint color may factor in the price a little, as I know some colors are harder/more complex to get matched correctly.

i see your point.
i was just letting you know of what i was quoted.
from what ive heard, that price is pretty standard in my area. ($500-$900)
you still have to prep a new bumper. just not nearly as much sanding.
i did find a friend of a friend whos willing to repaint for $200 so i may do that.. im hoping to run across a AP2 bumper for sale somewhere...
