The more I learn about the Nuvi, the more I'm convinced it will be the basis for our our design. It has the latest GPS technology and it's size makes it much more adaptable for this intallation. I'm curious about how others feel.

hell, i just checked that nuvi out, pretty damn cool. i think if i got it i would be perfectly happy just using the suction cup mount cuz that thing is so small anyways. i can just grab it and go.

That's true of all the Garmin designs -- they can all be windshield mounted with a sunction cup. In fact, that's how I used my StreetPilot at first, and why I developed the built-in windshield roof rail mount. The suction cup mount was fugly and always got in the way. Same with my Garmin Quest, which also has a sunction cup mount. Fine for a temp situation, but not if you you're looking for a built-in set-up -- something that's professional.

If we can make the Nuvi mount a snap-in, which I think will be quite easy, you'll still retain the portability (and safety from theft), but have a very professional mount when it's in the car, one that looks designed specifically for the S2000.

The Nuvi is my first choice.

Given that the curent crop of Garmins run from about $550 (Street Pilots) to $900 (Nuvi), I would think that restricting the roof-rail mount to the Nuvi will have an effect of the number of folks who will consider this mod.

Great Idea!
That's exactly what I've been looking for...
If the price is right, I would definately purchase one!

I know many seem to prefer the Nuvi because it's smaller, but it does not include some of the features of the top level 2700 series products. The Nuvi doesn't include

XM Radio
XM Traffic
XM Weather
Stereo line-out connector for integration with the car's headunit
Photo sensor to automatically adjust screen brightness

Also, the display is smaller on the Nuvi: 2.8" diagonal vs. 3.8" on the 2730

However, it's not much cheaper than the 2730. $969.00 retail vs. $1,292.00.

As bborzell mentioned above, limiting compatibility to one Garmin model like the Nuvi instead of six models will reduce the flexibility for those who want to purchase a less expensive model.

Rick, I want one primarily for the V1 mount. GPS would be cool, but not as important to me as the V1 mount. I was actually thinking of copying your visor setup (with the help of a local stereo/modding shop) for christmas for myself this year

In summary, I want one.
