The Nuvi seems small enough to integrate into the sunvisor. that way when you are not using it you can flip it up.
does that sound plausible?

I think this is a fabulous idea. I've been wanting both GPS and the Valentine, but I also want my interior to look clean/uncluttered. I'll be keeping an eye on this topic for future updates!

Attenna is no problem in this location, top up or top down.
Will the existing antenna work on the Garmin 26??-27?? in this location with the OEM hardtop?

While that sounds great, the visor is so low that it will prevent you from seeing anything in front of you. That is anyone over 5'10" (and possibly shorter than that too).

Here's another idea. Why not make a "Pod" enclosure. That is, something that matches the dash and would connect to the center of the dash, up against the windshield. It would snap down (or adhere) in the flat space between the two vents at the bottom of the windshield, and the cable can be tucked down there and run in the gap between the dash to the a-pillar, where it goes where it has to.

Advantages:
Stock looking
Good view of sky
Preserves stock interior
Easily visible - similar to OEM locations.

Disadvantages:
Only good for the smaller units like the NuVi or the c330.
Can't reach the unit while driving (like this is really bad?)
Sun hits the device (though it's built for in-car use)

I can't find any information regarding the Nuvi's screen operating temperature and/or screen heater device. Don't suppose you have any idea?

I work at a mobile data terminal company developing GPS devices (well, I just put in 2 weeks notice, and our products are not really appropriate for end user use) and a major problem we have is with screens freezing and cracking. Most systems with LCD screens need some sort of a heater in them for when the temperature gets too low but I just can't find anything about it from Garmin.

I had wondered about that myself. Go to the garmin site and navigate to the nuvi page. You can download the users manual. It states the temp limits are 32-140 degF. Anybody in very cold climate would have to be able to remove the nuvi for overnight.
