I just got back from a 1300 mile trip myself. I normally wear tennis shoes/running shoes and I've found that in the small pedal box my feet are more comfortable on long trips with a pair of "pool shoes". I like to think of them as poor man's driving shoes. They let me stretch out and turn my feet one way or the other during long stretches on cruise control much better than sneakers.
