Roll bar Speakers (pics)
Not only do I like the look of what you've done, I applaud both your courage and inventiveness!! If you were in Southern California I'd ask for a demonstration. Congratulations!!

This might seem strange, but I take pride in a job well done. If it didn't look seemless, sound good, or be cost effective I wouldn't have done it. Or I wouldn't have posted it. Before I mounted the tweets, I wired up them up and moved it around the cabin to see how well it sounds. I know audiophiles will disagree with a rear tweeter. But also realize that this car isn't the best receptacle for an "amazing" audio system being an open air roadster. Be that as it may, isn't it best to have the tweeter 1 ft from your ear where you can HEAR it rather than 3 ft in front of you being drown out by the drone of the engine?
BTW I test drove a BMW Z3 the other day, and guess where they put a speaker, yep right behind the head. Have you seen that before? It sounded fine.
Did you also keep your door mounted speakers? That would really be neat to have 4. How big is the lower speaker

Wow, some of you guys are harsh.
Yes, there have been threads about how tweeters should be placed within X number of inches from the woofer, but if it sounds good to the buyer, those arguments are all academic. I can offer several arguments as to why what he did was theoretically wrong, but I'd do the same thing if it sounded good to me.
And what about the install do you guys think looks unprofessional? I get the impression you're using the term 'unprofessional' to mean something you don't like the look of...to me, that term is reserved for an install that has been botched, like extra holes, or wires hanging from the dash. So you don't like lucid's manner of install, but I don't think that qualifies as unprofessional...how about unorthodox? He took the time to hide the wires and measure carefuly before slicing and dicing...to me, THAT'S the sign of a professional.

Lucid,
How are your channels set up? Did you mix the channels and then split out the signal to the tweeters or is it just left channel/driver and right channel/passenger? I'd think with music that uses a lot of stereo effect (some techno) there would be a huge left channel bias for the driver. I ask cause I really like the setup and am considering it but think I'd mix the channels.

A couple of higher quality pics of the tweets:

The tweet alone....

I had a chance to go for a drive today and test out different music. I can finally listen to classical music - Canon in D sounded great top down at 60!
Plus my other test was the Blue Man group soundtrack which runs the whole spectrum of highs and lows.

Seems like one could put both left and right tweeters on each headrest. Then equalize the mids and bass to match.
What I'm thinking about is noise canceling headphones like in private planes. This could also be used to communicate with the passenger while travel at high speeds.

I don't see what all the $hit talk is about.
