Roll Cage Vs. Hardtop on an s2000

The OEM roll hoops are very good in a roll over.
As for a cage, it all depends on what size you get. A 4pt or a 5pt is much safer in a roll over than the 6 point.
The hardtop is a great addition, but its Aluminum and glass, and in the case of a roll over I would think the glass would shatter and the hardtop would give and possibly smash in making the OEM roll hoops your saver.

Honda would not have designed a car that kills people in a rollover. There are laws about convertible safety.
You should be fine....you honestly think a thin flimsy roof on an Accord is safe?

I'd like to see some actual crash tests (or at least something somewhat meaningful like an FEA) that back up that claim. Aluminum/fiber hardtops aren't going to do anything. They don't provide any structural support nor are they designed for rollover protection.
Just do whatever they want, get their help with the cost, then once you already shown you're willing to do what they think is safe, you can start showing them pictures and info about the effectiveness of the stock roll hoops and windshield structure.
Maybe they'll let you take the HT off whenever you want and you'll still have it for the rest of the times.
It's not worth the battle with them IMO, you won't hate the car for whatever time frame you have to have it as a hard top vehicle.

Haha wtf. I just tried telling them why its safer without a hardtop/rollbars and my dad told me, "You're convincing the wrong person"
I was confused and like uh what??? And hes like you have to convince your mom. Then my mom tells me "The original agreement is you were getting a hardtop, I don't want to talk about cars"
And then I got booted from the room haha
Basically I keep telling her that her story is bullcrap over and over. Her story goes like this, back in the 80s her teenage friend who owned a 70s truck rolled over, and that roof saved his life and his sisters life as well because they were stuck there upside down for an hour before help arrived.
And I keep interrupting her being like, mom that was a 70s vehicle, technology has greatly improved since then and companies like Honda do trial and error over the years to make improvements to prevent stuff like roll overs >.<
Horrible story, horrible morals
Anyways I guess I am going for a Mugen CRF Hardtop.
On the plus side I should be getting my car fixed from the dealership tomorrow (minor cosmetic fixes) so I am hoping to take it into the humongous empty school parking lot behind my house tomorrow and start getting good at driving stick

Hopefully she'll come around on the hardtop issue down the road but at least you're getting an S.
How far over your heads do the roll hoops go? I am 6" 0' and I think when I was test driving it they were about 4 inches over my head. I can't tell because it looks like I am not getting my S until Friday (Gotta wait for the dealership to deposit the check).
