What is a cheap/good hardtop? I was thinking bout getting a Mugen FRP for like 2.9k.
OEM is far cheaper and will come pre-painted.

Everyone's right about 50%-off-an-OEM-you're-a-lunatic-to-say-no, but here's an aside: I'll bet that in a rollover in an S you're worse off having a hardtop than not. I forget where I saw it, but I read once the percentage of people killed in rollovers who were actually killed by the incursion of the roof as it protruded into the passenger compartment and it was surprisingly high, and looking at Smirf's accident that doesn't seem unreasonable. An S's hardtop can kind of only do more harm than good, since it's structurally useless.

But yeah, take the 50% off now, make your mom happy, and sell it to me at your cost when you move out.

Roll cage in a daily driver is a good way to crack your skull open if you ever do get into an accident. Stick with the hard top if you must do something.

This doesn't really make sense? If the rollover is going to push the hardtop inwards, then it'll even worse with a softop, or heaven forbid, top down.

Where do you get an OEM hardtop for "far cheaper' than $2,900?

The hardtop is not structural. It is only thin aluminum and glass.

i drove an NB miata prior to my s2000. no rollhoops either. anyway, i dont know which is safer but i think the hardtop is cooler.

You're right. I was thinking $2600 or so. $2950 at Hardopguy.
