S2000 = poor man's M Coupe.
Sorry, but I HAVE to disagree with the almost-universal "ugly" description of the M-coupe. Before I bought mine (yup, I've got an M-coupe and a Stook), I thought it was ugly. But, in the flesh, the M-coupe has (to me, at least), an animal-like crouch and demeanor. I love to look at it from behind - what an aggressive stance it has!! And I love the low-end torque of that in-line six.
On the other hand, I take equal delight in the clean lines and high-revving engine of my Stook. It's a way-different car from the M-coupe.
Bottom line : each car has it's own special beauty. Whenever my fiscally-responsible side says "you really ought to sell one of your toys", I go thru hell with the comparisons. But my childish side always wins out. BOTH cars are "keepers".

My wife (not a car person) saw an M-Coupe and said "Eeuwww, what is that." I said "A BMW Coupe". She said "What did he do to make is so ugly." I said "It came like that". She laugh and said "You mean BMW wanted it to look like that?" It took about 10 minutes to convince her that it was BMW's coupe version of the Z3.
But then it's this kind of post that makes this place such a relief. First it's a SO.com thread and now OT.net. You guys need to stick around here more
I'm not even going to try and read that thread. Somehow I kind'a know what was said.
Thanks for your well informed and sensible post my friend.

I think the M Coupe is gorgeous. I had a deposit for 2000 M Coupe with Weatherford BMW, but by chance I test drove a '99 used one sitting in BMW of SF. Great engine, but the retro interior and handling did not impress me.
Then I test drove the S2000 with the Start botton, the stricly business-like interior, the F1 handling, and well, I moved over to the S2k camp.
But with the new 315bhp engine, that's hard to match. To each their own. While I would not call the S2k a poor man's M Coupe, I wouldn't diss it either.
Cheers,
