I agree with those saying that a "new S2000" will do nothing but help our resale value long term. I'm willing to bet the new car will be more numb, unfocused & not as passionate as the S2000 we all have come to love. If this car gets any sort of negative feedback from the press they are going to be comparing it to how the original car was a work of art when it comes to driving dynamics & feel.

The days of analog sports cars are over, we have one of the last & best examples of the modern roadster, and one with character that has yet to be matched for it's price point, reliability & styling. I for one think that if Honda does release what they feel is a spiritual successor, it'll fall flat of passion & racing heritage and it'll remind people even more how special our cars are...meaning more & more people will be looking for clean examples & be willing to pay good money for them.

I agree with you. Car manufacturers make cars to make money first, and to appeal to a broader audience, they must build in more comforts. The changes in the AP2 are even a testament to that. Look what has happened to the 911 over the years as well. Now, Porsche is building specific models to cater to more enthusiast drivers but only as a sub model of the original.

Furthermore, look at what has happened to classic 911 prices since the 991 release. Bad press about the new technologies being used (electronic steering, which Honda did right back in 99 on our cars) and now you can't buy a classic 911 for a reasonable price anymore. Perhaps the original S2000 models will benefit from the same thing.

Agreed that a new model wouldn't hurt AP1/2 value, and likely could increase it. I've had mine for 2 years, I could easily sell it and break even with what I have into it. But I didn’t buy it because of that, I bought it because it makes me happy every time I drive it even after 2 years. The fact that I can break even is just a nice bonus. Cars typically are not an investment, not the right way to look at it.

That said, the rendering of a new one the C&D posted on twitter looked incredible. Put the Civic Type R motor in it, add a couple comfort items and that’s it. That would be the perfect formula IMHO.
