S2000 " discussion" on the corvette forum.
Build quality? Take a look at your harness grounds in the engine compartment. Note they are neatly lined up. Look at the grounds under the dash of the Vette. The Vette suspension does look good, whereas ours does not appear to be aluminum - it's painted. Look at the carpet fit in the corners in the very front and compare with the Vette. There's not a lot of difference, but there is some. However, look at the tail lights on the Vette, cause that's what you will see from your S if it's the performance model - sorry about that!
Even though I did lose a few precious IQ points by reading that thread, I would have to say one simple thing...who freaking cares what they think??
I *really* admire the C5 and Z06 and have actually thought about picking up a Z06...that car is world class stuff. I don't think I will anytime soon, but it sure has crossed my mind on occasion.
I would say the nice touches on the S2000, like Gary mentioned the grounds, are cool...but the C5 and Z06 represent something of a change to the upside for GM. I have railed against Roger Smith's idiocy here many times...he just about single-handedly destroyed GM in the early 80's and GM is still feeling those repercussions. But slowly, I think the flagship GM cars are getting better, albeit slowly, at things like build quality, etc. But throw in 360-esque performance with the Z06 and you have one extraordinary machine.
Most of the criticisms were pretty subjective...but so what? I would hope that your experience is based on how YOU relate to the S2000 (or whatever car you want to relate to), not from what a bunch of clowns on a forum on the Internet think about it.
Don't practice the automotive chauvinism that you are accusing others of practicing. Enjoy YOUR car...and it's a good idea to enjoy all cars at some level, IMO. There are a lot of very excellent cars out there these days. The Z06 is a formidable performer and in the hands of the same driver would pretty much clean up an S2000 at just about any kind of track...even a tighter, more technical one...but for SURE on a long, wide open road course.

Hi all:
I'm new to this forum and wanted to throw in my .02. I currently own a 1999 Miata. Have had a Miata for the last 7 years and love it to pieces. I wish I could afford both my Miata and an S2000, but finances dictate otherwise.
My point, I have admiration for all kinds of cars. I love my Miata, but I also love the S2000. The C5 Vette I think is most stunning of the Vettes in years since the Stingray. There are people of all kinds who own all kinds of cars. I know of ignorant people who own Miata's and well as ignorant people who own S2000's and Vettes. Don't judge the person by the car they drive, judge the person for what they are. Stereotypes will exist, but that doesn't mean they can never change...

Since we're arguing moot points....
Personally, I think the current generation V6 Honda Accord is a much better car than either the Z06 or the S2000.
The Accord accelerates with alacrity when called upon to do so, yet can haul 5 adults in comfort. It is an able handler (considering its modest tire sidewall profile), achieves superior gas mileage and has superb build quality. It also has excellent resale value...on a level at least even with the S2000.
Best of all it can be had fully equipped in EX trim in the low 20's.
Yes, the Accord is truly an excellent sport sedan as well as bonafide family transport. It is an exceptional value.
Now...you'll likely find few S2000 owners and even fewer Corvette owners who will agree with my assertions. Checking your ego at the door is a prerequisite to truly appreciating the goodness that the Accord entails, as you'll see yourself coming and going often. Perhaps Accord owners need a secret wave like the "Miata Flash."
Have I driven a Z06? Yup!
Have I driven an S2000? Double yup...wouldn't trade mine for the world. I also wouldn't trade my Accord either
