We should limit this to the States.

What does the WRX do in stock trim? (yes, I know it`s turbo`d)

Also, are we comparing magazine numbers or real world numbers?

I don't know anyone who has dragged a WRX to get times, but mags have it running slightly behind the S2000 in all aspects: 0-60, 1/4, top speed, etc.

From what I'm reading the WRX will come out in a higher output version in a year or two 275-280 Hp. And then theres the Lancer which will be at least 230 if not higher. Serious turbo 4 bangers cheaper and faster (0-60) than our S2000s. But if you're talking FASTEST and we're still being ambiguous about what FAST is, these ugly buggers would have a hard time pulling past 140 due to the drag coefficient.

The Porsche 968 was only a Four Cylinder Engine

Having previously driven a 968, it could go toe to toe with the S2000 - the only plus for the S2000 is that it tops out at 9000 rpm.

Any Caterham with decent power will leave an S2000 for dead. The hariest four cylinder I know of was a Westfield. This is a car in the mold of the Lotus 7 (weighs about 900lb) and had a 225hp Escort Cosworth turbo 4-banger in it. Absolutely loony car. I believe it matched a McLaren F1 to 60 (about 3.x seconds). Top speed isn't that high, but it is probably one of the quickest 4 cylinder cars ever made.

You have to classify "4cyl". As I remember, the Toyota GTP car was a 4 cylinder, about 2 litres, twin Turbo charged with 100 inches of boost. It could go over 230mph and was the final King in the IMSA GTP category, doing Lime Rock with the chicane at a record 43.112 seconds (the chicane knocks 4 seconds off of track time). It would hit 165mph at the end, before braking, of the main straight which was only 1300ft long.

Now if you meant 4 cycle engine, well that opens another whole can of worms!!!

Then there was the BMW F1 1.5 turbo motors that used old 2002 iron blocks that were at least 100k kms old. Was said to have made 1500hp in qualifing trim by the end of it's develpment.

There are NA 4 bangers drag cars that can hit 9's on the quarter mile. They are putting about 260-280 HP to the wheels. Now these cars are fast. Nevertheless, these cars are built for only a few runs, from there the engine gets gutted and everything is rebuilt. Latez!
