My MY01 AP1 was my first RWD car as well. I drove my civic for a couple years and then bought a S2k. Just be careful in the canyons. I spun my 2nd time up there. I was getting way too confident and had the rear kick out in a sweeping left. Thankfully nothing happened but don't underestimate the S2000's desire to kill inexperienced drivers.

Nothing wrong with asking questions. But considering the negative replies and testy attitude from the OP, not to mention the spelling, abbreviations (smh, really?) grammar and caps (or lack of) usage, well.... Good luck dude. People here are only sharing their opinions, no reason to get so testy. And a lot of the opinions shared come backed up with years of experience and many read posts of young drivers with little to no experience with either driving period or a RWD car (or plain out immaturity) wrecking and totaling a S2K. The opinions here are meant to help you out. Quit being so negative, get the chip off your shoulder and grow up. And good luck on the S2K.

Mustangs and Miatas are great cars, especially for people with no rwd experience. The S2000 has a reputation for spinning for a reason, so I'm just giving you my advice, but feel free to get an S - we all agree they are great cars.

You want an S, but you are asking very basic questions, which indicates to me you know almost nothing about the car you want to buy. Have you even driven an S2000 yet? Have you read the stickies in this forum? Do you want to mod the car? Whether you want an AP1 or AP2 is about the last thing you should ask as they are pretty similar.

If you're dead set on getting an S, I'd get a less expensive one so you have money for insurance, which is high, and good tires, which are expensive. The last thing you want to do is put cheap tires on an S, and older cars need more money for maintenance to keep them in good shape.

If that's true, then point me to the nearest McD's in your area

Seriously though, the cheapest I've ever seen one with a clean title go for, was like $8k.

If you think an S2000 would be a smart investment for a high school kid working at McDonalds, I think you and I have very different views on smart finances. A beat to hell or salvage title AP1 with a bunch of miles might be someone cheap to pick up, but then you'll have an inefficient, impractical, shady daily driver that will end up costing a bunch in insurance, gas, and maintenance.

An 06+ with VSA left alone (ON) will be a very safe car even for a novice RWD driver. You have to be doing something really stupid in really bad conditions (or have really bad tires) to upset its balance.

My S2k was also my first RWD car (after an Accord, and an Integra), and somehow I managed not to crash it. Keep the hooliganism to an absolute minimum while getting to know the car. Play around a in wet parking lots to see what it takes to get it out of shape. Spin it at an autocross, not a big intersection. Hit a cone, not a curb.

I would, however, suggest you finish schooling before throwing big money at a car. I waited until I was a couple of years out of college, and bought mine brand spankin' new for my 25th birthday.

That said, almost 12 years later, it's still getting driven every day, and has proven to be extremely reliable. Couple of batteries, new soft top, zero mechanical failures out of warranty (knock on wood). Under warranty, I replaced a window regulator and the clutch master cylinder. That's it...
