I can't believe that some of you carry guns in your car, I would love to for protection, but I live in CA, I don't think anybody carries guns in their car here, if it is standard practice here in CA, please let me know. I have a mini .22 pistol I could easily hide. I don't want to be one of those people, pulled to the side of the road, hand-cuffed with the gun setting on the top of my car like on "COPS".

get a CCP (not sure how CA works this or even at all) and you're good.

I think I want a little bersa .380. They are fairly cheap but good guns and I like that they have some weight to them still. My buddy has a tiny ruger thats about the size of a deck of playing cards and I hate shooting it.
Try a Kimber Solo 9mm. It's about the size of the Bersa .380 but has a bit more punch. It's also much more comfortable to shoot than the Ruger LCP.
I have the Ruger LCP. It's not easiest gun to shoot comfortably but it carries easier than almost any other .380 made. If your gun is too big to carry than it does you know good as a carry piece.

I thought about getting the LCP, but wanted something with a little more punch even though it is a great gun. I then thought about the LC9, but wasn't a fan of the Double action only, so I went with the Beretta PX4 subcompact even though it is a decent bit larger, but it is DA/SA and can carry 13+1 in the 9mm.

I carry a RPG in my trunk at all times with some more shells... just in case.

lol @ people sarcastically mentioning high-power weaponry as if it's the same thing as a handgun

I will look into that kimber however I generally cannot justify the cost of their stuff nice as it is. I do like that it is 9mm insted of .380 as 9mm is much cheaper here. All of my guns have been quality but on the budget side and they all shoot as good or better than my friends more expensive guns. I took a competative shooting class at a local gun club where me and my $500 Bersa 1911 shot better than the rest of the class (except the instructors). Its pretty hard to buy accuracy with a hand gun and since they are really just for range duty and for the worst case home protection I am happy for now. I have to go take that class though its something I have been meaning to do and just need to find the time to do it.

Silly California.

When guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns. Plenty of people carry guns in California, they are called violent criminals. Much easier to commit a crime when the victim is not armed and doesn't fight back.

When seconds count the police are only minutes away.

It's interesting to see the states where most of the pro-gun people live. I live in NJ, and have been to many sketchy areas, and I have never felt the need to own a gun for self protection in my car.

I spent a 1.5 year stint in Minnesota recently, I guess pretty Mid-west as it comes... Cracked myself laughing when I saw signs in the front of my office which said "No Guns permitted on premises". I can at least say that whoever carried them at least kept them in their pants as I didn't see a single gun in my time there.

Hate to see the combination of low rider suspension, or worn out suspension bumpiness and a loaded gun though to be honest in a limited space interior like the s2k.

One thing to own one, and use it in a safe environment. A whole thing other to have a loaded gun driving around the burbs where my kids are; and worse, for those who leave it in a soft top convertible ready to be stolen please don't...

There are some pretty good ideas in here, I especially like the steering column mounted holster but i think for us that wouldn't quite workout. I would be interested to see what you could come up with alloy craft ! To keep your cost down it would have to just have some kind of one-size-fits-all Velcro enclosure. I did a quick Google search and found this http://www.texasjk.com/showthread.ph...at-Gun-Holster it seems like almost the perfect position, maybe if it was pushed down a bit or rotated under the seat out of the way.
