S2000 Intake design
Does anyone know why the S2000's air intake path is the way it is?
What I mean is it goes through 2 horizontal 90 degree bends and more bends if you're running some aftermarket intakes. Why didn't they make a snorkel/airbox that flowed into a straight line into the thottle body so that the air flowed in a straighter line. (Taking into account the vertical bends)
I don't have a S2000 myself but I'm thinking about getting one and was just wondering.
Thanks for the replies, yeah it does seem strange though, where as they could of had a straight path for the air, maybe it's to do with Horizontal bends Vs Vertical bends. With vertical bends maybe it takes more effort to suck air.
The stock airbox somewhere in front of the throttle body would have seemed more logical to me.

Like MattG said, most oem intakes are designed for minimal noise levels. By taking the entire front of the engine bay, that gives them room to put in area for the noise to be absorbed. Mind you, it's not that loud if they would've made it straight(er), but this is still a Honda that has to appeal to more ppl than a Ferrari (which are quite loud from the factory).
