Old thread but funny because in the OP most of the jealousy comments are about how expensive the car was back in 2001.

 

I don't drive my S2000 anywhere near my clients anymore as they seem to think I am being paid too much. It happened to me once, even though my 12 year old S2000 is worth far less than their newer Carollas and Civics. lol. My car looks like a Million bucks though, lol, the Mugen hardop gives it such a different appearance some people think it's a supercar or something, they have no idea it's an inexpensive Honda.

 

Oddly enough, even 13 years later, people think this car is more expensive than it really is.

Don't care, however. I bought it for me.

While I personally haven't had those comments made to me they don't bother/ offend me at all. Now if they were making really smug comments like "daddy paid for that" or messing with your car I would be mad.

 

This is what I think every time someone asks me about my car. I have a co-worker who's on welfare but just bought a BRAND NEW 2014 Mitsubishi Outback. The guy spends money like crazy though... Even compared to my girlfriend's 2008 Ford Focus SE (purchased new) though, I still paid less lol.

I'm actually pretty surprised though that I don't get more snide remarks about my car. I'm only 20 but so far every time I stop to fill up or anything like that I've never had anyone harass me about it lol.

I have had some experience lol:

- One night, out of a party, I have had some random girls praising my car before when I was in college.

- Driving topless in La Jolla when an old man in his new Lexus GS next to me said "nice car, it looks amazing."

- The day I walked at my graduation, I drove to the parking lot topless, got out in my suit and put on my hat. Some families were looking haha.

 

Oh just a simple $1000 up-charge for good taste?

 

UCSD! I just saw your picture of library walk during the car show. Oh how I miss UCSD.

 

Maybe people in your area are more knowledge about cars. I personally never associate income or wealth with cars unless someone owns a hypercar like a Buggati or a Koenigsegg. Luxury cars/sport cars even supercars depreciate so fast so people can pick them up relatively cheap used. Many of my neighbors growing up had Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Aston Martins, etc, but nobody in my neighborhood is what I consider upper-class.
