Default S2000 keys?

I found 2 keys on ebay for $$26 and they claim that all the computer chip keys for the S r the same. I called Honda today, and they said u have to program each key individually and that there isn't a universal key for s2000. They claim each chip has to be programed for the exact car. Is this true, if not, can you please give me some facts about this, thanks

Each key has to be programmed to the car. Some Aftermarket keys can only be programmed with an existing functional key.

There are 2 different types of transporder keys. 1 which needs to be directly programmed to the car and the other can be programmed to a key that already starts the car. Honda only sells these keys for $25 or so, but it cost about $45 to program it to your car. If you are trying to get a spare, it will only cost $25.

hope that helps!

I just bought two new keys (OEM Honda) from streetkeys.com -- they sent the blanks and I took them to a local affiliate who programmed them and cut them in less than 10 minutes.

Each key was ~$27 (you can get generics for slightly less) and $30 to get them both cut and programmed.
