Is the s2000 losing its umph?

Can't prevent time from going by! With MY00 models 8 years old now, they're easier and easier for younger people to obtain.
But yes I agree with what most people said up top. Theres only like 4 other S in my area/city and all is owned by middle aged men.
Have you ever noticed that whenever you don't have interest for a certain car, you'd never/rarely see it on the road, but as soon as you become interested in the car...all of them come out of no where? It's happened to me with the Rx7 and now the S2k.
To get back on topic: Many cars will eventually lose their umph as the years go by, and the prices go down. It's the way of life. We can't do a thing except wish death on them, or hope they total the car...period.

I bought mine 2 months after turning 19, 22K and knew that this price for a used car was out of reach for teenagers.
But I also bought completely on my own. With my own cash flow, my own credit, own words, own nagotiations, absolutely EVERYTHING. In my own ambition, I wanted it to seperate myself from the "wrong hands" crowd.
Im somewhat anti social and very much a loner.
My pride means alot to me, my car is my pride as well.
Spending hours keeping it clean is personal gain to me.
I've never dumped my clutch, burned out, shown off, or had done anything to ruin its image.
I get raged and insulted when compared to my own age group and when my own age group see's me with it.
If you get to know me, you might find out how serious I am.
I feel pity on the S2K's that have owners that do so for personal gain and gloating of owning such car. Typical teenage drivers disgust me.
Honestly i've pondered on selling my S and going for an NSX cus its harder for the "wrong hands" to get ahold and the S is seeing a whole new breed of ignorant owners. I thought for sure the aftermarket prices would ward off them as well, appearently im wrong.
Im sorry, I disagree with the newer generations getting ahold of such a vehicle. I feel its value decrease after every "wrong abusing hand" it falls to.
I gurantee you if I decided to sell my S, wouldnt go to anyone under 21.

Heres a thought:
Get a Brand new S2000 then keep it in a vault or some sort of storage place. Take it out after 25years. By then, you would have a brand spankin new S, thus, bringing its "umph" back. lol

I am not getting a vault, but it has it's spot in the garage, and is rarely driven. Not because I am 'preserving it', but rather I just don't have the time and opportunity to get behind the wheel too often.
I put it on the market for a bit this summer, and got no responses (other than from scam artists working out of Canada offering to 'help sell my car').
The resale price seems to be taking a nosedive. I attribute that to the influx of faster alternatives coupled with the deterioration of the brand from ricers.
In any case, she sits pretty in the garage, gets some sun now and again, and I will hold on to it for awhile.
At the rate folks are thrashing, crashing, and mutilating their cars I would expect the value depreciation curve to become more gentle with time...particularly so when the production stops and Honda quits replacing the ones that are being totaled out.
In the meantime (and perhaps forever time) I will not sell it at a 'bargain'.
If that means that it collects a bit of dust in the garage for a very, very long time, Cool. Hence the first sentence in my post.
By no means was I trying to offend anyone, or tell anyone what cars they can and can't have. I was asking more about the influx of "ricers" onto the s2000 scene. Those who bought the car, but don't know anything about it.
I am with several of you. I was twenty when I picked up my MY01. I wanted to buy new, or even used, but financially I had to settle for wrecked. It was just my luck that the car I came across was supercharged. I made many sacrifices to have an s2000. And to be honest with you, I'm still paying.
Also, I am not trying to say that all younger owners are bad, that was just the case in my story. In fact, the overwhelming majority of owners in Lexington, Ky are 19-25; six if I'm correct. And, if I may say so, we pretty well know our stuff.
Still, this is interesting discussion.

I think it's a simple case of the car getting cheaper, thus more epople are able to afford it, which opens it up to new people, some good, some bad.
Please don't lump all young people into one group, I've been modding and taking excellent care of my cars since I was 16. I was raised in a family of car enthusiasts and became one myself. I'm OCD about keeping the damn thing clean as well.
There's always going to be a loud minority group (numbers not race or anything people) that will make the larger group seem worse than they are, see PETA.

People have to start learning somewhere.
And s2ki.com is a great place to start.
I don't fault people for ignorance... just for the desire to stay ignorant.
I plan to "use my car up."
Then buy someone else's garage queen for cheap and turn her into a dirty track / racing ho.
I think we're seeing a breed of teens and early 20-somethings who buy the car to represent something. Status, achievement, etc. They get very defensive when someone "tarnishes" that image.
But really, if it can be bought on a budget... how elitist can you expect to be? Use it, enjoy it. Mod it if you want it to be unique. I like FI and mods to keep the "uumph."

Funny, many years ago when I was a teen my first car was a 57 Chevy BelAir which was modified and very fast. I did some stupid things, got some tickets and learned the hard way that driving aggressively can be expensive. Many cars later I have had an 00S and currently own an 04. I now drive more sensibly but I do push the car on ocassions as thats why I bought it. These young guys are no different than I was at that age and my only hope is that they dont injure or kill someone as a result of their immaturity.
