Default S2000 losing value?

saw a few Honda ads in the newspaper this weekend. Hardin Honda (So Cal) is offering 2006 S2000s for only $31,118. I remember a few weeks ago seeing the sticker price at $34,xxx for 2006 models. I know that no one pays msrp for them, but still...for the dealers to advertise a price at $31,xxx is pretty bold. what do people think of this? is this a clearence or liquidation of the existing models or are they gonna discontinue the line up? i know there has been many discussion about this day, but maybe it's here? or maybe they are lowering the price since cars these days (saturn sky, solstice, or mustangs) are offering similar performance or desirability (convertible) that sales have just plummeted.

You sure its not just a loss leader car? They advertise a quantity of 1 car at a very very low price, it is sold immediately and then they tell everyone else who comes in that the car is sold, but they can offer them an equivalent car for only a little bit more...

we all know the the cars mentioned are not in the same class. this isnt, a discussion about which is better. however, they all share some kinda of characterstics that consumers in this niche market want, whether it be performance or convertible driving.

but no, i wasn't mistaken. it was no loss leader. they said there was 6 to choose from and they were not left over 2005 models either.

If you want your faith restored, head to Honda of Santa Monica, where they STILL have a $3000 dealer mark-up on a 2006 S2000.

actually sales figures from 2006 have shown no dropoff.. I also don't think anyone has been paying msrp at most dealers since 2001 The final price of my S2K w/ options in December 99 was $38,000 on the nose

And to bring some reality to all, my buddy just picked up his '06 Blue on Monday for $29350.

Reality is, no one pays MSRP. $29-32k is the norm.

I find that hard to believe. Not saying you aren't telling the truth but I don't see how they can get to those numbers. If sticker is 34,050.00 and 3% holdback is what the dealer gets (according to Edmunds). Then dealer holdback is 1021.50. If "dealer invoice" is according to Edmunds, truly 30,633.00 (probably), then the dealer should stop making any money at 29611.50. If these numbers are accurate, then there must be some other money coming to the dealer because I doubt that anyone would sell a car at a loss during prime convertible selling season. I just can't see it. There would have to be some other factory incentives.
