I find that hard to believe. Not saying you aren't telling the truth but I don't see how they can get to those numbers. If sticker is 34,050.00 and 3% holdback is what the dealer gets (according to Edmunds). Then dealer holdback is 1021.50. If "dealer invoice" is according to Edmunds, truly 30,633.00 (probably), then the dealer should stop making any money at 29611.50. If these numbers are accurate, then there must be some other money coming to the dealer because I doubt that anyone would sell a car at a loss during prime convertible selling season. I just can't see it. There would have to be some other factory incentives.
do you really believe that dealers buy each of their S2000s at $29611.50 from honda?

29.5 is believable if they used Honda financing.

I got mine for $30,492. $36,542 out the door after ignorantly getting reamed with motion sensor alarm, teflon coating, and lo jack, + tax & tags. Did everyone know all those add-ons I got is less than half the dealer's price had I gotten them outside? >

You're correct. However dealers will take losses on certain pieces of inventory after it reaches a certain length of time on the lot (varies per dealer). If I had a brand new S2000 that nobody had cracked the doors on in 6 months, I'd be very willing to let that car go for a loss. The S2000 hasn't been a big-profit car in years, and customers for new S2000's get rarer all the time - most people are buying used S2000's.

Trade-in has everthing to do with it. I'd be surprised if anyone got a sub $30k price without a major trade-in hit, or paying big interest though AHFC.

As far as losing it's value. I would think all those who've always wanted one but were afraid to bite, now will be paying a little more to get a really unique, hard to find and even collectable sports car now that production will soon stop. That is, as long as too many owners don't devalue the S by dumping it for chump change so they can simply get the next "gotta have it" that comes down the line. Hopefully there's enough owners out there that will hold onto their cars for quite a while keeping its value strong.

I still hear it all the time: "Wow, that's a nice car, who makes it...Honda?! I never knew..."

I'm reminded of the last generation of Honda Preludes. We too thought the discontinuation announcement would raise the value and demand, but it was quite the opposite in Southern Virginia. We had 5 new Preludes sitting on the lot at that time, and could not give them away. I think 1 person came out and bought one because he loved Preludes so much, but we ended up losing thousands to get rid of the last 4.

As soon as there were no more new Preludes on dealer lots, then demand came up - I think the same thing will happen with the S2000. Just because S2Ki exists we think that the world worships the S, but there are 50,000+ registered people on S2Ki across the world, and about 2,000 of those folks are actually active......but there are over 6.5 Billion people on the planet who don't drive S2000's.

I was quoted $31,183 on an '06 but was able to get a left over '05 for $29,300 (Silverstone/black). Whoda thunk there would be left overs? It was sitting on the lot since last October. 50 miles away, closer to Portland the've got all the '06's listed at 38k and change. Depnds on the market I guess.

Any one who thinks invoice is actual dealer cost needs to wake up. Why do you think there is always disclaimers right in the print ad's and the real fast low talk at the end of a radio ad saying "Invoice does not reflect actual dealer cost". If you think a retail outfit sales a $30,000 dollar product and makes $500 i just dont know what to say, just wake up. The local Best Buy isnt making more profit on a $2000 tv then a honda dealership is making on a $30,000 dollar car.

I would run off some real number's but Poindexter and I dont get along. Plus from what he tells, he is the retail guru of the auto world. So why he doesnt enlighten us with his wealth of knowledge is beyond me. Screw it here are some real numbers. I am sure Pointdexer will say i am full of crap.

Here is some fact. Local jeep dealer i worked for about 10 years ago.

Numbers are ruff its been ten years.

1998 Jeep cherokee

Window sticker $22,000
Invoice Price $19,000
Actual dealer cost $15,800

Not including all the kick backs from chrysler they get for selling so many units in a month or what have you.

No one has yet mentioned the mileage of a lower priced car. Could be a demo car with some significant miles. Hopefully it was not a Katrina victim from New Orleans that was being dumped somewhere else.
